This was what my internet explorer opened to when I came home this afternoon. I'm thinking either my son jacked explorer, or someone planted a script.

Well whatever it was failed so it can't be that bad. Might mean you have a virus. Scan, etc....

Also do yourself a favor and disable activex. You're sending an open invitation by running it.

No doubt. Only a child would be using IE....or a Korean.

I have firefox, but I forget why I stopped using it.

So what is 'wrong' with IE?

It has gotten a lot better lately, but it is too involved with the OS for my liking. Too much integration makes the whole system vulnerable; the OS should be as far from the internet as possible, thus firewalls, anti-virus, etc.

Then again, I am somewhat paranoid; I often disable java (I don't even have the runtimes/scripts installed), don't load images from many sites (typically advertising anyways), use a router and a software firewall, have cache folders set to 'read only', use Tor a lot of the time...

I will say that I have never had a virus in my entire computing life, never had a browser hijack, never had spyware or malware or any other problem I didn't create myself. So, while I may be overzealous in my lockdown, it has served me well.

IE, IMO, invites trouble or at least, flirts with it. Firefox is almost popular enough to ditch now too. It won't work with may Korean sites, but that is a blessing. The Korean internet is absolutely rife with garbage; I couldn't imagine a more polluted network. Korea's dependence upon IE? IE is the easiest to write exploits for.
