My class is basically 2 kids that have learned English and 28 that can't and won't ever learn English.

The text is for mid level students and the co-teachers insist we do listening activities and that the more we repeat, the more everyone will understand.

Its 2 months in and I have 2 very bored students who know everything in the textbook and 28 kids how have to be beaten to stay awake. They don't know a word I'm saying.

One activity:

Make teams.

Choose a short paragraph with your vocabulary words of the day.
Assign one member of each team to listen for just one of the words.

Read the paragraph and keep track of which Team 'wins' each word.

You could throw in an English song once and a while. Copy the lyrics from the internet, and delete some words here and there. Have them listen and fill them in. Choose easy songs that they might be interested in, or have heard a bit.

I used the listening textbook by Jack Richards. It comes with a tape. It follows a similar format as the universiy entrance exam. It's written by the same person as Interchange. You can find it in either the English bookstore in Changak or Chobo bookstore nearby

If you are going with that then you could try American Adventures - I managed to get two lots of Starter and Elementary ordered for me.

Cotnacted the Oxford reseller here and they sorted it out.

It's aimed at teens with teen stuff in it. Ignore the grammar and use the reading and listening exercises - every three chapters there is a pop song as well.

So you use this book in all of your classes? How do you keep the kids from writing in it or otherwise destroying it? I've been trying to get my school to buy textbooks for my class for ages now. Maybe this is one way I could convince them!
