About spousal visas

I am thinking about moving to another school.

Let's say there is a bit of a delay in between contracts and I need to extend my visa for a bit longer, I understand that can be done.

If it is extended by a few days, can my wife who's on a F-3 visa also extend her visa until mine expires, which will be just those extra few days.

Yes.

As long as you are NOT working you can both get simple extensions for up to 30 days by making an application, showing your ARC, PASSPORTS and exit tickets. (your extension will be until the time of your flight).

This is FREE (but you can't work on it). It is also like an exit order and the new exit date CANNOT be extended.

Thank you Tom.

But what if we want to extend in order to give a new school a bit of extra time to get my contract ready.

In this case, we wouldn't have exit flights ready. How would we get around that problem?

It looks like I'll sign a new contract today, at the same school.

I remember last year when I first arrived and went to immigration, they kept my passport for a week, while they prepared my ARC.

When I extend my visa, will they keep my passport?

My concern is I want my wife to be able to extend her visa without difficulty, so if immi. held onto my passport, would the slip they give me to confirm they have my passport, be enough for my wife to extend her visa, without delay?

Or should she visit immi. this time when I do, to extend the visa.

You take the required documents for your visa extension to the immigration office.

1. Visa Extension Application
2. Passport and your Alien Registration Card
3. New contract
4. Sponsorship Certificate (from school)
5. A copy of Certificate of School / Business Registration (from school)
6. Processing Fee
7. New Criminal Record Certificate, apostillized / embassy notarized (for Canadians only)
8. New Health Check Certificate

You take HER passport and ARC with you (or she can visit with you).
You fill in the applications for visa extensions.
You pay the fees.

IF you have all the required documentation with you it will be done while you wait. Passports and ARCs will be returned after they are updated (about 20 minutes).

Follow the mans advice or don't ask for it.

You are head of the house.

He gave the same advice to me and there were no problems. Do you really want to drag your wife into the immigration office for hours on end?

You could even book an apointment online if you can figure out how to do it and not have to wait three hours.

My mistake. Embarassed ragging on you for the sake of it.

Try booking it online either way. Save you two or three hours if you are going to Suwon. Last time I was there in March I got there at 8:40 or so and didn't get out until near 12.

Others came in and waited ten minutes or so and got seen at the reservations desk.

I didn't take the missus with me.
