Anyone know about the new regs and how to go about changing schools? I think I want to leave my job at the six month mark, as it is not my cup of tea. I may want to return to my old hagwon, or maybe a public school. Can my visa be switched over, or do I need to start over? |

New E-2 regs don't help you break contract or switch schools. You will need a letter of release or you must wait for your current E-2 visa to expire, then you can return and get a new visa through a new employer. If Korea would pull its head out its own ass and allow teachers to change schools, it would create better schools, better jobs and better English-speaking Koreans. But that's not happening right now, so you are fucked. |

Well a letter of release is no problem for me. I just wanted to know if I have to leave the country etc, or if the visa can be transfered to a new employer under the new regs. |

You can transfer to a new employer IF you're at least ten months into your current contract. Otherwise, you'll need to cancel your current visa and do a visa run. They do seem to make an exception to the 10-month rule for transferring to a public school, however.
Also, be aware that since you got your visa before the new regs came into effect, you'll need an authenticated criminal background check and a medical check in order to transfer your visa. |

Thanks for the tip...I am hoping to transfer to a public school, so I would need checks anyway...nice to know it might involve less hassle than I thought. |
