Hi,
I was just told that if I teach at a summer camp I will lose my curent E2 as I'm a hagwon worker, not a public school teacher. Is this really true?? |

It's job outside of your own. Why wouldn't you lose your E2 over it? |

In order to teach at a camp (i.e., a camp not operated by one's regular employer at the usual work location), an E-2 holder has to apply to Immigration for an "addition of work place." This requires the permission of the original employer.
In the case of public schools, my understanding is that they'll generally grant permission as long as the camp falls during the vacation period. It's hard to see a hagwon being willing to grant permission, however. Further, it generally states in the contract that you may not work for anyone other than your employer.
Thus, an E-2 holder employed by a hagwon could possibly face sanctions from Immigration and termination by the employer (and hence the cancellation of the visa) for working a camp without permission. |

The majority of summer camps that PS will allow you to do will still be with the same Board of Education. If your school isn't offering summer camps then you can go to your Board of Education and ask to work in one, they'll be able to point you in the right direction.
If they don't ok the camp and immigration stamp your ARC and you work for one without them knowing then you're for the chop, if found out. Goodbye!
Hagwon's are a different kettle of fish. Firstly I'm not sure you actually have the holiday to do one. If you only have 10 days vacation a year, the idea of working for that is sadistic. As with PS the same rules apply if your visa sponsor doesn't ok it as well as immigration then goodbye! |

You need permission from your visa sponsor, and if they are unwilling to grant permission, I'd seriously consider getting another job. |

Hi,
I posted my situation on here a week ago, but for some reason the mods deleted it. basically, my current hagwon owner is sick and will sell the one of his schools to a lady who doesn't want foreign teachers. So, I'm out of work although I will probably work at his other school part time (yes this school is my main employer and on my ARC)
Because my girlfriend lives with me, my boss will not cancel my visa and I will just have a bulk of free time until I can land a job with public school in August. So, I want to do a couple of camps to earn money whilst still being able to stay in Korea with my gilfriend and avoiding the long haul back to England.
So, with his permission, I might be alright then?? The last thing that I want at this moment in time is to go back to the UK and sit around doing knack all, whilst paying rent and wasting lots of money. |

I'd say you'd be very alright. Ask him, and then ask immigration, and then start looking for camps. |
