Why do Korean store owners sometimes knowingly charge me more for the same things they charge Korean customers for? IT happens often enough for me to know it's not a "simple mistake".

Most of the time they don't overcharge alot, but it's the whole principle of treating customers differently simply based on race that pisses me off.

Back home, the business would get sued and go out of business.

I'm getting tired of this crap.

I would overcharge any person too weak to stand up for themselves and refuse to pay...ESPECIALLY if they were of another race!

So you go to a new store and don't even know the price of goods there..The clerk overcharges you and you should stand up for yourself and refuse to pay?

Eh excuse me genius but how would one know that they are being overcharged if one does not know the price of stuff in the store.

Because you watch as a few minutes later someone buys the EXACT same item for less than what you just paid. Does that answer your question Einstein?

You hang around for a few minutes after you buy something? Learn some Korean and tell them to charge you the correct price and stop bitching

Eh you are quite right there dude. But me personally, I am not in the habit of buying goods in a store and then hangin about to see what other folk pay. Each to their own I suppose. Good on ya.

Actually I found that Thailand and Cambodia charges foreigners more often as there is a 2 tiered pricing system in place, but I didn't see this in Korea. Of course I paid more for fruits and vegetables at 5 day street markets due to not speaking Korean well enough to talk a good deal like locals. Gokka Juseo

Your are quite right there dude. The government even do it. Entrance to national parks, museums etc is normally treble to what a Thai has to pay.

Could you give me an example? I know in stores where haggling is customary (like an electronics booth or namdaemoon) there is a japanese price, a whitey price, and an ajumma price.

Koreans vendors have lost so much business from me for quoting me such a ridiculous price from the get go. I just walk away in these cases.

Correction. Normally ten times what a Thai has to pay.

IMO the only places that rip me off in pricing also rip the Koreans off: 7-11, LG 25, and all those other convenience stores that charge 25-30% more than a small mom and pop shop does. I always hate it that I know a small bottle of water is 500 won but if I am in a hurry to drink and there aren't other options I can end up paying up to 800 won for the same bottle.

As for mom and pop places, I've never gotten ripped off from them. Perhaps you have "noob" written on your forehead and they try to take you for a ride.
