A friend of mine was born in the US.

Her mother was born in Korea.

Does she qualify for an F4 visa?

Are there any new requirements for the F4 visa in the wake of the new visa laws?

Should she get the F4 before or after coming to Korea?

Will she need a criminal background check/medical examination?

She doesn't want to teach. Will the F4 allow her to study, or work another job?

Thanks

Oh yeh.

She's married to an American.

Can he get some kind of family visa to go as well?

I think she's going to go either way.. wants to experience her "family heritage" or something like that.

Would he just have to get a tourist or student visa? He doesn't want to teach either so the E2 is out for both of them.

That seems quite complicated to be asking on a forum for ESL teachers......

Couldn't she ask her embassy? Or US officials? The answer here maybe correct but in a case like this I would rather go for a definitive answer rather than a hearsay on a forum............ Question

Yes she's eligible for the F4 because her mom is Korean.

From what I've heard, it was really simple and easy to get the F4 before the new laws. Now, it requires a lot of paper work and it was a big hassle for me. Luckily my uncle and cousin were able to help me out a lot.

We went to the office in Yeongdongpo to try to obtain some document but they refused and insisted my mom needed to go to Houston and pay like $360 for some old document she lost. So since my visa was running out I was just going to apply for a student visa, but as my cousin was telling the lady who worked at immigration our problem, she told us to try the office in whatever gu ommokgyo is in, and they for whatever reason released the document to us. It would have been a real hassle otherwise.

If possible, she should try to get the F4 before coming to Korea. However if you have all the right documents, it only takes about 5 days to get the F4 while in Korea.

With the F4 she can pretty much get any job except there is some restrictions on manual labor, but she can do private tutoring, which is one of the advantages to having a f4.
