It's that time of year again. Well worth a weekend trip. Chow down some famous-in-Korea "Jeonju bibimbap" and be the envy of your school even if it's just alright.

what are the venues like?
also my Korean is limited, will i understand anything?

international films so foreign language and korean subs no?

fyi, cheap hotels can be had near the train station - which might be wise to book ahead - travel to Jeonju is frequent and there will be traffic jams if the weather is good

(for hotels exiting the train station - go straight do not turn left or right. walk maybe 300 m or so - look over to your left across the road - you'll see older hotels up against the mountain - they range around 25,000 won a night, older but quite comfortable)

the PRIMUS theatre tends to have NO leg room - and multiple flights of stairs, seems to be quite a fire hazard, no AC and it can be quite warm during the festival

Megabox is the best theatre, IMO

all theatres are in an area with plenty of restaurants, etc.

shuttle buses are available but always slow and infrequent

the festival is VERY popular, each year more so, try and buy tickets ahead of time or you're apt to be disappointed; some tickets will go on sale the day of, but you have to be there in line an hour or 2 ahead - maybe 8 in the morning? (been there done that!)

there will be volunteers on hand to help with E but again, tkts go quickly which is your biggest concern

if you don't know how to get there from the bus or train station, tell a taxi to take you to Gek-Sa or Kek-Sa - it's a downtown temple where everyone meets - from there just ask around for the cinema.

actually last year there was a booth set up outside the train station.

and yes, the weather does tend to be warm there

thanks for the advice, i can only make sunday and monday so was expecting it to be busy, ill try to get tickets this week then.

any recommendations for films?

what else to do in jeonju, soju museum? anything else i shouldn't miss?

the films should keep you pretty busy; can't say about what to see - there should be a good selection so just pick them

*look carefully at how they classify them according to English or No English

sometimes "NE" means no English dialogue BUT there are E subtitles;

whereas NO english subtitles or dialogue is not really designated other than perhaps K for korean subtitles

**also** if asking for info from a korean SUBTITLES ==>WORDS as in

English Words (they don't always understand "subtitles")

What about hotels near the bus station?

it's an older area, not really businesses but more residential; you'll find some really old ones if (1) you read K and (2) you aren't at all picky about noise or cleanliness

if you manage to make it to the downtown area (see my post above) you can probably find a hotel - maybe - but there aren't really that many downtown and the festival will attract a lot of people

otherwise, it's difficult to give directions, you are pretty much on your own, sorry !

the train station is on the other side of town so it's not feasible to come in on the bus and go to the train station to find a hotel, btw

there are plenty of motels near the bus terminal
maybe the area isn't that nice if you are accustomed to gangnam, but if your just going to sleep there it shouldn't be a problem its a 15 minute walk to the cinema street

plenty of motels, no need to book ahead (i went to the last two film festivals there and had no prob walking right up)

no need to prebook tickets to films, plenty of choice, not until saturday afternoon did selection become lessened

the vast majority of films are in the festival area, nice enough, plenty of restaurants too, and there's a shuttle bus out to the university area and back

you don't need a single word of korean to function totally there

just go... it's easier than you think
