I'm starving and too lazy to take a bus into town. There's a chicken place that delivers - but how do I order?

They don't sell anything else so it shouldn't be too hard ... or is it? Do I just give them my address? They'll ask if I want 2 of the same flavors, I don't even care right now, I just want chicken. Am I supposed to have exact change? Do I tip for delivery or is it already included?

Thank you.

When they answer the phone, just say hello (여보세요? Yobo-se-yo?), then your address, then what you want. They might ask you a barrage of questions that you don't really understand...you can either play the daredevil game of randomly answering yes or no, or just make noises like you don't understand and repeat your order.

They'll send something...

I'm not sure when you posted this but hope you get some grub. Ordering chicken is pretty much the easiest of all the take-away stuff to order. Oh, and if they do it, you can get boneless chicken if you ask for "뼈없는 치킨ppyeo-omnun chicken"

Good luck!

No. You can if you want, but the locals don't.

Unless you are falling down drunk, don't order delivery in Korea. You get very small portions and lousy service.

I ordered take out once (well, my Korean friend was here & she made the call). The delivery place didn't understand where the address was - I live a 15 minute walk out of town. So they had to keep calling as they got closer & closer for on-the-spot directions.
By the time they got here the pizza & chicken was cold.
I haven't bothered again since.

But good luck Rae! I know what it's like to be craving something, very frustrating when something gets in the way!

Thank you all so much for the responses. Before I attempt again, how the hell do I say 302? Do I say 3-0-2, or three hundred two? Do I say it in Sino-Korean or Pure Korean?

Sad

I normally say three hundred two (in Korean of course) but either way should be fine.

Everyone is new at some point. I remember when I first got here and I left a small tip on the table and walked out. The lady came running out after me trying to give me the money I had "forgotten"

삼백이-호 (Sam Baek Ee Ho). The "Ho" part means room, assuming you're in an apartment block. If you need to give a building number, use "dong".

Pure Korean numbers only go up to 99, so if the number is bigger than that, always use the Sino-Korean numbers.

I wonder if a logical address system will ever take off.

Success - I love you all. But I fail at Korean and ended up bugging the-best-orientation-roomie-ever to call for me. Though I will bookmark this and order something myself next week.

Edit: Scratch that. I'll order something myself in two weeks. That's a lot of chicken!

Very Happy
