My husband and I have decided to bring our dog with us to Korea. We do not feel right about leaving him in Canada because we feel he is our responsibility and we would miss him too much.
That being said, we are starting to think about his flight over (13 hours we have been told) and were wondering if it would be humane to "drug him". I have given my dog a small dose of gravol before to help him sleep on a 6 hour flight and I wondered afterwards if it was a good idea or not.
He is crate trained, but he hates being by himself and I am afraid that the long flight will make him sick.
Does anyone have any advice about this? |

My wife and I brought our two beagles with us from the US to Korea. I would not drug them. They might be a bit scared and bark and cry during the flight, but it's better than having a reaction to the drugs. If there is a reaction, you will not know about it until you pick your dogs up from quarantine.
Also, most airlines will not accept your dogs if you have given them any kind of relaxer.
We just took them for a very long run. Kept them awake for as long as possible, then checked them in with the airline. All went well and always does.
Good luck. |

Don't drug the dog. Dogs need to know what's going on. Scared or not. And don't try to coddle him either. One suggestion, after you get the dog there, take it on a long walk before taking it into your apartment. I hear that's really helpful for helping them adjust. |
