I just watched this documentary about Islam. Until now I had viewed Islam as similar to Christianity, at least I believed it was a religion of peace. Now I understand that the peace they imply is only available to a world united under Islam's sword. And, that Islam is not just a religion but a political and social mold as well (think Leviticus as a global state).

Freaky stuff. Postmodernist pluralistic societies really need to stop being entertained long enough to realize the implications of Islam.

I know this sounds politically incorrect and it's definitely not something I would have thought I'd have said before. Please watch the documentary for yourself.

It is not currently a religion of peace, nor has it been for a thousand years. In the Middle East, they are still under the mystical spell of ignorance cast by Al-Ghazzali's the Incoherence of the Philosophers.

Some on this forum will tell you Islam is a religion like any other, but just particularly misunderstood. This is not true. The dogma and philosophical blindfold Al-Ghazzali placed over Islam has hampered and handicapped Islam for a thousand years.

Others on this forum will tell you that Islam is fundamentally hateful and polemic. Neither is this true. There is nothing wrong with any Islamic person except perhaps the crap dogma he has been taught. Islam is not essentially hostile to peace and globalism. It has simply been interpreted thus in the Middle East as far as anyone can remember.

This all, however, raises the question as to why The Incoherence Of The Philosophers has been able to maintain its stranglehold on Muslim thinking into the 21st Century, whereas similar ideas in western Christianity had their sunset decades if not centuries ago.

Islam just like any mass brainwashing idealogy is a poison that destroys human individualism and spirit.

The question the West needs to ask and then answer is why are people all of a sudden making documentaries and writing Op-Ed pieces about Islam now? Islam, as Kuros wrote, hasn't changed all that much in a bunch of centuries. So why now?

Just for a little historical perspective, look up 'pied-noir' on Wiki.

What Westerners need is more contact with Muslims.

Either that, or someone better tell the massive foreign population of Dubai, for example, that it's just a matter of time till they're all rounded up and stoned to death by fundamentalists.

Seriously, though, a much better source for those interested in modern Islam, its role in the world, and what Muslims have to say about it is this:

Kuros makes a good point. A literal reading of the Old Testament would convince anyone that Jews and Christians are intractably hostile to tolerance and pluralism, which obviously is not the case.

Islam's problem is that it didn't go through the church vs. nobility power struggles that midwifed the birth of the middle class and the Enlightenment in Europe. The seventeenth and eighteenth centuries were an extraordinary time; the opinions of the average sixteenth-century Christian on the Jews (for example) would be... surprising, from a modern point of view.

On the plus side, the Moslems have an excellent example to follow, which should make the road easier for them. I hope.

A German's point of view on Islam

by Dr. Emanuel Tanay, Psychiatrist

A man whose family was German aristocracy prior to World War ll owned a number of large industries and estates. When asked how many German people were true Nazis, the answer he gave can guide our attitude toward fanaticism. Very few people were true Nazis he said, but many enjoyed the return of German pride, and many more were too busy to care. I was one of those who just thought the Nazis were a bunch of fools. So, the majority just sat back and let it all happen. Then, before we knew it, they owned us, and we had lost control, and the end of the world had come. My family lost everything. I ended up in a concentration camp and the Allies destroyed my factories.

We are told again and again by experts and talking heads that Islam is the religion of peace, and that the vast majority of Muslims just want to live in peace. Although this unqualified assertion may be true, it is entirely irrelevant. It is meaningless fluff, meant to make us feel better, and meant to somehow diminish the spectra of fanatics rampaging across the globe in the name of Islam.

The fact is that the fanatics rule Islam at this moment in history. It is the fanatics who march. It is the fanatics who wage any one of 50 shooting wars worldwide. It is the fanatics who systematically slaughter Christian or tribal groups throughout Africa and are gradually taking over the entire continent in an Islamic wave.

It is the fanatics who bomb, behead, murder, or honor kill. It is the fanatics who take over mosque after mosque. It is the fanatics who zealously spread the stoning and hanging of rape victims and homosexuals. The hard quantifiable fact is that the peaceful majority, the silent majority, is cowed and extraneous.

Communist Russia was comprised of Russians who just wanted to live in peace, yet the Russian Communists were responsible for the murder of about 20 million people. The peaceful majority were irrelevant.

Chinas huge population was peaceful as well, but Chinese Communists managed to kill a staggering 70 million people.

The average Japanese individual prior to World War ll was not a warmongering sadist. Yet, Japan murdered and slaughtered its way across South East Asia in an orgy of killing that included the systematic murder of 12 million Chinese civilians; most killed by sword, shovel, and bayonet.

And, who can forget Rwanda, which collapsed into butchery. Could it not be said that the majority of Rwandans were peace loving?

History lessons are often incredibly simple and blunt, yet for all our powers of reason we often miss the most basic and uncomplicated of points: Peace-loving Muslims have been made irrelevant by their silence. Peace-loving Muslims will become our enemy if they dont speak up, because like my friend from Germany, they will awaken one day and find that the fanatics own them, and the end of their world will have begun.

Peace-loving Germans, Japanese, Chinese, Russians, Rwandans, Serbs, Afghanis, Iraqis, Palestinians, Somalis, Nigerians, Algerians, and many others have died because the peaceful majority did not speak up until it was too late. As for us who watch it all unfold , we must pay attention to the only group that counts: the fanatics who threaten our way of life.

Very well put. It makes you wonder. If some random German dude can put things into such perspective what the hell are our own governments doing? In a society that can sell ice cream to eskimos none of our political leaders have been able to clearly and coherently explain the dangers that face us.

Instead we have people running around blaming the entire religion instead of the fanatics. Which by the way we are doing nothing to put an end to. Iraq is a debacle. We have european powers unwilling to commit
forces to afghnistan. While defence corporations around the world sit back in complete ecstacy, reaping the rewards of our "struggle against islam." Rolling Eyes

Is blowing oneself up inside an orphanage a moral act? The Mullahs in Tehran say it is. And it is, they say, because the book says it is. Our question then becomes.does the book say so, or not?

The Koran has some things of decency to say. It says give money to the poor, love your mom, basic ethics. The problem is, often in the very next verse, it says nonbelievers will burn in hell for eternity, Jews are animals, nonmuslims should never receive help, and women are inferior subhumans. Its inconsistent. Why is it inconsistent? Because it was written by people who didnt know what a light year is, or know that man is an extremely advanced species of ape (like sharks are an extremely advanced species of fish). The writers in question had a massively small grasp of the reality in which we live.

We cant do anything about Muslims living under theocracy, because if you openly believe in evolution in Saudi Arabia, youll have something amputated. Our priority therefore is to appeal to Muslims reason who live in the West. This forms part of our wider priority - to rid our societies (and in the more distant future, our planet) of all manner of indecency.

Our next question becomeshow successful are our efforts education system, assimilation initiatives etc in appealing to Muslims reason about the Holocaust, evolution, homosexuality, equality of women? Are you impressed, optimistic?

How about killing your own daughter:

A 17-year-old Iraqi girl has been murdered by her father in an "honour killing" after falling in love with a British soldier in Basra.

Rand Abdel-Qader was killed after her family discovered she had formed a friendship with a 22-year-old infantryman she knew as Paul.

Rand was suffocated by her father and then hacked at with a knife. He called out that his honour was being cleansed, her mother said.

The father was arrested, held for two hours, then released without charge. "Not much can be done when we have an honour killing," said Sergeant Ali Jabbar of Basra police. "You are in a Muslim society and women should live under religious laws."

Rand's mother, who divorced her husband after the killing, is now in hiding from her family and being looked after by a local charity. "She has been threatened by her husband's family and is very scared," said a charity spokeswoman.

Sick.
