Missed the select button before pressing start. No unlimited lives in Contra for you |
Crap! I guess that means no bad-ass jetski in Contra 4, either. ㅜㅜ
I totally get the OP about the few PC games-or-nothing mentality with the K-folk. What I don't get is the contempt a lot of em seem to show for console games. Once in a while if I bring up xbox 360 in a games conversation I'll get a smirk or "psssht" or scoff-type reaction, like I just said I enjoy playing with Barbies or something. Now if it's someone who thinks games are childish in general, fine whatever, but it's usually the biggest PC game nerds who do this. WTF? A lot of console games, especially with being online now, are just as sophisticated as most PC games, no? At least moreso than pap like Kart Rider, Sudden Attack, and that lame-ass street basketball game I always hear in the PC rooms.
(4 more days til GTA 4, bitches.) |
You my friend are a smart man. Outside of Starcraft...all the games that koreans play are of an extremely low standard. Kart Rider...sudden attack....if these games were to be displayed to the world gaming community...they would be laughed at. |

Starcraft isn't turn based. It has a theoretically infinite number of paths. |
Spam most powerful unit. Click on enemy base. Repeat ad infinatum. |
That is precisely what many other RTS games are like and Starcraft is not like. Starcraft's ingenious game design means that even the weakest initial units (ie the zergling) can be used effectively late game.
There are some super-powerful units like the ultralisk and carrier but to get the point of being able to make these units in enough numbers is very difficult as it requires you to expand out from your initial starting point to secure more resources and thus be vulnerable to attack.
Not only that but units like the ultralisk even though they are powerful are still much more effective when backed up by other units (ie zerglings and defilers with dark swarms) so unless you diversify your armies you won't really do very well.
Part of the reason why SC continues to be very popular is that new maps are released every year which require different tactics. Just when you think you've seen it all some player in the proleagues will come out with some completely unexpected build order or play style.
Even within the stock tactics small subtle variations can make huge differences. I would say on a level of tactical variety its easily comparable with chess and then when you add in the fact the the player's hand-eye co-ordination has an effect on the outcome throws in even more variables as one small control mistake could have a huge difference on the outcome of the match.
Anyway I'm not saying its the only good game around but in terms of RTS games and active community as well as making an interesting spectator sport I can't think of anything that beats it. |

| asylum seeker knows the game. You just have no idea what you can expect until you actually learn how to play the game and have multiple moments of "holy...wait..how was that even possible?" watching the progamers playing it. |

Dude I was only messing. I love RTS games though I don't have much time to play them nowadays. I preffered C&C to Starcraft. Ironic as I prefer Pro Evo to Fifa.
Starcraft was ok. But Red Alert 2 had attack squids!!! and dolphins!!! and you could strap bombs to mind controlled cows!!!
I actually find the potential complexity in Starcraft a turn off. Computer games are about having fun, not turning yourself into some kind of pseudo autistic athlete with "X click per minute" and prepared buid orders. Starcraft is just a bit too Otaku for me. Games are a passtime not a lifestyle. |

Starcraft is like Othello, a minute to learn, a lifetime to master. I see nothing wrong with that. |

I didn't say there was anything wrong with it but I see no reason to be so defensive over Starcraft. I also doubt anyone would spend a lifetime playing Starcraft. No computer game is that good. |

Starcraft !?!?
You know I tried to play online with the Koreans, but they are NOTORIOUS for knowing all the litttle things about the game....and that makes playing with them impossible!! They always win !
Do you know how many man-hours I've waisted on playing games? How much money I spent on that ?
I could've looked more buff than Arnold! I could've been richer than Billy Gates !! I could've .... |
