Sooo, I applied for my F2 Visa today. Everything went fine, and I should have it mailed to me in 10days or less they said.

Only question is now, there was nothing mentioned about an F2-1 by my wife or me at any point. Now, from what searching I've done on Daves, I've read that an F2 is just a residence visa, while an F2-1 is a residence+work Visa (clearly I would want that!). They lady at immigration said I no longer have to bother with an E2 visa ever again, which made me cry out in joy.

Soooo, question is.... Will I be getting an F2 or a F2-1? What's the difference (am I correct)? Also, is this lady correct in saying I will no longer need a E2 visa? If she is correct, that must mean I have an F2-1 coming to me?

I know these questions HAVE been answered before, but I've found more then one answer. I've gotten information from people contradicting what this lady at immigration told me, so I'm a bit concerned.

Any info would be greatly appreciated!

P.S. Yes, I know I should probably just call immigration and clear this question up. Before I get my wife to do that however, I'd like more facts. Thanks guys! Smile

You will get a F2-1 visa. It is what everyone gets now. Most people just say F2 because it is easier than F2-1

She is correct you will never need an E2 as long as you have your F2-1 visa. Before 2005, we had to have the F2 visa and we had to get permission to work at each place we worked. Since 2005 immigration doesn't care about where you work.

COngratualtions. Next step F5

Woohoo, thanks for the comfort!

I'm just happy to avoid the messy new E2 system.

You get the F2-1, then start counting the days. After 2 years you can get an F5 and never deal with immigration again.

I hate immigration.

They told me one to two months, and I have to pick it up myself.

They told me my F-2-1 was good for four years.

Immigration seems to give straight answers. Unfortunately, they often seem to be heading off in all kinds of different directions.

I have to re-new my F2-1 visa at Suwon immigration in a few weeks. The first time I got the visa was at Incheon immigration. How is the re-newal process at Suwon ?

As far as getting it went, it was quite easy. Well, lets put it this way, it really wasn't any effort on my part, my wife basically handled EVERYTHING. She just handed me one form to sign, then was nice enough to take me to immigration, do all the talking while I stood there and didn't say a single word, and about 5minutes later we left (Good thing she booked a time for us). They said it would be here in 10days, it's been 4 so far.

Very easy!

I just renewed my F2-1 at Suwon in the fall. The process is simple, however, the number of people waiting is very high. Make sure you book in advance online or you could end up with a 3 or 4 hour wait.

My passport expires next Feb. Will this cause them to give me only a 1 year visa instead of a 2 ? Has anyone had an experience with immigration where they had to get a new passport before your visa has expired ?

Do you think I will have to get a new passport before I get a visa ? Can't they just transfer the visa to a new passport next year ?

If your nice to them, they will give you a year extension and tell you to make sure you get your new passport when your current one expires. F2-1 doesn;t need to get stamped into the passport
