Nvidia 9600GT beats or matches the 3870 in games. Not sure about video. Runs only about 160K and its Nvidia.

It's a toss-up performance wise. But, yeah. The 9600GT can be had for a little less than the HD3870.

I wouldn't buy the 9600GT because it's nVidia though. Nvidia and ATI only make the chipset, and the chipsets on these two cards are evenly matched. It's the actual card manufacturer that puts it all together. For better or for worse. Really, the only thing i worry much about now when choosing my GPU is if the memory is GDDR4 and if the fan is quiet.

Well, price/performance is always king. But if that's a tie I think pretty similarly to eamo.

I'd say definitely grab the nvidia if you like to run AA/AF. Otherwise it's fairly close to a toss up.

If you really want a mega GPU, hang on for a couple of months.....

Mountain House (CA) Unlike the ATI that we knew before, it appears that AMDs graphics division is running perfectly these days and ahead of deadlines. Even though the graphics unit has posted an $8 million loss in the first quarter of this year in an effort to improve market share rather than average selling prices - the graphics business is making progress: We hear the company has struck gold with the RV770 and will be bring the chip to market earlier than expected.

Sweet, I'm probably buying a system in September. Looks like good news for me.

The reason I chose the 3870 over the 9600GT is easy. I'm buying an Intel board and they don't SLI. If I were buying an nVidia board, I'd get the 9600GT.

The prices are about the same here in Korea, around 190-200,000 for a good one.

Strange, danawa took the HD3870 off their quick menu list...wonder why? Could be just a glitch or mistake on their part. Can still find them if you search directly.
