It may be because the Korean word Ⱦϴ is translated as "to hate" but in reality is not as intense in it's implications.

Still, point taken though.

Too much hatoration.

They say hate, because they haven't learned enough english at the Hagwon to be able to say "I'm not keen on, I fairly/ strongly dislike, I'm not too hot on, I'm not a big fan of, I'm not too sure about, It's not my favorite, etc etc etc and a host of other terms we use to describe the varying degrees of "not liking something" that westerners use.

I hate:

bad drivers
dumbasses
people who smell
taxes
tipping
getting older

Ok so I might use the word "hate" with those things, but I don't truly hate them, I use it as an expression. Hate being the strongest form of dislike. Perhaps that is what some students use it as. I teach hate as the strongest form of dislike, whereas love is the strongest form of like.

I hate the weather today, it sucks. (not necessary feeling real hatred...expression wise)

I love that new shirt, where did you buy it? (another expression, chances are the person is just paying a compliment...)
