I have been perusing the local bookstore, and searching the net for useful
material, books, sites, etc.

What I've been able to find are books and resources designed for use in a regular K-12 classroom back home. Very good for those type of classes, but a lot of the ideas in them rely heavily on being able to speak and communicate with kids in their own language. I can see the underlying concepts are good and should be transferrable, but a lot of the stuff just wouldn't work (for various reasons) in the places where I've taught.

I think that a lot of the problems teachers have in hagwans stem from the language barrier.

I'm wondering if anyone has found some books, resources that are designed specifically for the EFL/ESL classroom. Confused

Any thoughts/comments?
Thanks

I recently purchased "Teaching English to Children in Asia" as it was highly recommended by other posters in previous threads. It's absolutely brilliant and a very easy read. I wish I'd discovered it 10 months ago.

It has a Game Bank of 100 games & a great chapter on classroom management. It's primary focus is getting kids interested in learning English through a child-centered approach.

It's by David Paul, I bought it at Bandi & Lunis at Coex for 14,000 won.

While this book is not written specifically for ESL I have found it to be incredibly helpful. It is designed to help a teacher design effective classroom routines and it has good tips for managing classrooms of all levels. At first I thought that it was a bit gung-ho, but I have reread it before every school year.

Thanks guys/gals. I have the David Paul book, I found it very useful as well and like you I wish I had bought it 10 months earlier.
I will check on the other book as well, it looks interesting.

Cheers

Looks like Bandi & Lunis have sold out of that David Paul book, tried to find it yesterday and couldn't!
I'll keep trying though...

They are selling a book called "Teaching English To Koreans" which to be honest doesn't look all that helpful - anyone bought this can suggest otherwise?
