Hello all. I parked in front of Tom 'n' Tom's coffee for the daily cafeine fix and some nice honey butter bread. The next thing I saw were a group of five adjoshi's with nice looking baseball caps come up to my car, take a picture of it and then proceed to put a ticket on it. They were ready to take it to the compound when the pick-up truck came over. I hopped in my car and made a quick exit. The guys didn't know what to do and I looked behind me and they were taking someone elses car to the compound.
So I have a nice 40,000 KRW fine for my first time parking illegally in Korea. I shall get a scan of my parking ticket for you folks soon. Anyone else received a fine for parking illegally?
Bravo-sparkling. |

Yup, in front of our fave cafe. We'd been parking there for around a year, loads of people park along the same street, we had no idea it was illegal! Bucheon has a big van that drives around with a digital camera system on the roof. They just slowly drive by and snap pictures of all the license plates and cars parked there. You may not even see it coming! We got the ticket in the mail about 2 weeks later. 40,000won. Stupid van even drives around late on Sunday evenings! *sigh* So now we pay to park around the corner and walk. It is cheap to pay park, but during the day the parking is always full and walking sucks when you are this pregnant! |

Who exactly were the people who gave you the ticket? Police? Or just a group of those "building adjoshi" who are dressed like Navy Admirals. |

You parked illegally and got the ticket you deserved...now pay the ticket like a good little muppet and stop bothering people on a message board who could care less about it. |

What makes you think he parked illegally? The men he described don't sound like police. Are you just making up facts? |

I affectionately refer to them as the parking nazis. They are employed by the city. In Ilsan they ride bicycles and terrorize motorists. |

I don't know where you're from, but in London you'd get a fine of about 200 pounds. Once they've signed order to tow the vehicle, it's too late for you to get in and drive. If you do, you can be charged. Once towed, you have pay everyone's expenses.
40,000W is peanuts. Pay up and be more careful in future. |

First ever time of parking illegally and I get a ticket. Luck of the draw really and I don't really mind paying 40,000 KRW (it's under half of my hourly rate).
Btw, the guys looked like adjosshi navy admirals that are employed by the City Council to jump out of a van and take pictures, fine motorists (even if they stop and are still in the car) and harrass anyone for stopping by the pavement.
I once saw a taxi waiting in the street for a fare and a bunch of adjosshis jumped out of a grey van, one taking pictures, another take down the number plate and another stick a parking ticket of the taxi but the guy had the engine running and was still in the car waiting for a customer. Sometimes I don't mind them fining a parked car but fining a taxi who is waiting for a fare is mental. |

Just how is it "mental" if the taxi's parked/fare waiting in a place where it's illegal to do so. BTW, the law is a good thing...it can be your friend if you abide by it. It's cut and dry..it has to be that way. |

A word to the wise: IF you fail to pay a parking ticket or a moving vehicle violation, you won't be able to sell your car until you do. Although the government can't keep track of the documents we turn in to get jobs even in the same city, they do manage to keep track of all the tickets they hand out. |
