For those who are finishing up soon or recently finished a contract, I'd like to know who did and didn't have problems getting their severance pay this year, and where you work (hagwon, public school, university).

Just out of interest.

edit: If you were fired or quit before your 11th month please don't respond, I'm interested in those who finished a complete contract. I think if you were fired IN your eleventh month, that pretty much counts as not getting your severance though, don't you think?

I got my severance payments for each year so far.

1st time was the last day of my first year at the hagwon. Second time was not as prompt but I did get it. How they do the calculation however seemed to change from the first year to the second.

Got it so I'm happy.

Cheers

Always got mine too.

My favorite pay was when I finished my first hawgwon gig. I got my final pay+severence+housing deposit back+re-embursed sick days (never took any)

Back then it was all cash too...I had a BRICK of 10,000 bills, that was a great feeling.

I think I got most of it, but it's hard to tell, since there are no pay slips. I don't have a clue what was deducted, what was missed, if anything. Except that I am still waiting for the air ticket........... Rolling Eyes

Anyway, it's all behind me nowwwwwwwwwwwwwwww Shocked

When I was finishing at my hagwon I got the "we don't know if we can pay you" talk.

I worked a year and got paid.
I renewed for 3 months. Then I signed for 15 months beyond the 3.
9 months into the 15 I wanted out. I gave proper legal notice.
When I finished I had put in a full 12 month second year.
I deserved severance.
They didn't want to pay.
I got it.
Cheap scum though for trying.

Last year I got it all without any hassles on the very last day of my contract. Because my previous boss had been such an SOB about pretty much everything else it was a pleasant surprise.

This year I can't help but wonder, as my current boss paid my salary this month with her credit card.
