Hanoi, or Saigon Vietnam - probably in the next year or two. Not for the money, but for the experience.
Then back to Korea for a year, probably Jeonju or Yeosu for the money if you can still make any here.
Then off to Ecuador In the tropical area for a year if things work out. |

kalkamagi, Excellent place to live. I left there before christmas and had lived there for 4 years working as a chef. Thought I'd have a bit of change teaching in KOrea, but I'm hoping to do 3 years teaching, save some money and then do their PGCE course for a year and then teach English there.
Settle down there. See I keep thinking about it now so I'm sure it's the place for me. |
How did you deal with the outrageous taxes? Do you just get used to it eventually? |

San Diego. That's where I will be for the next two years. I wouldn't mind staying here longer due to the nice climate. Diverse enough for me as well.
Singapore. Aim is to work there after i get my grad degree. Great place to get pretty much anywhere in Asia. Good food, great transportation system, etc.
some city in japan. Since that is what my focus will be on in school, might end up there.
San Francisco Bay area. Where i'm from. bound to end up there again one of these days. |
Wait a minute.
What is your focus in grad school that focuses on Japan? |

| Within 5 years time, our plans are to be in the North/NE of Brazil...Belem (very likely), Fortaleza (2nd choice), or Natal (a close 3rd). |

I actually left Sweden after four years with a 7000 pound ($14000) debt so obviously I didn't do it very well. It's much like anywhere if you are pretty well paid and have a good job then you'll be absolutely fine. Also don't bother going out that much, you'll save a lot. A beer when you go out can cost as much a $10, cocktails about $15. So the idea is to get absolutely leathered at home before you hit the bars.
That's why I want to go back as a teacher because I'll have the extra holidays that I didn't get when I was a chef and I'll have a well paid job. Yippee!
Is it somewhere you were thinking of going Rae? |

Jakarta: Have lived there before, love the place and have friends there now. Most can't hack the pollution, noise and chaos, but I love it.
Bali: Slight chance of being located there in a job. Wouldn't be the worst place on earth to get sent
Makassar: My wife was just there on business and loved it. Never been myself, but would like to check it out.
Singapore: The dream job is there, will find out in a few weeks if this is possible. Food, entertainment, proximity to everything cool. Love it. Have visited four time this year alone. Will be very happy to spend weekends in little India.
Brisbane: If the big plans fall through and I have to give up the dream, home is where I am bound. I find it to be Australia's most livable city, great climate and a lifestyle that is the envy of most travelers, even if it is at times a little sterile. |

I taught in Brazil years ago - Sao Paulo & Rio de Jainero.
Florianopolis is southern part of Brazil...somewhat of a middle class as well (compared to generally either insanely wealthy mixed with insanely poor Brazil)...it is also more European than most of Brazil...and supposedly has great beaches as well, and quite a few blond-haired Brazilians. |

Does anyone else have the bad habit of always having one foot out the door, always looking for the next big adventure?
The two places I would like to live in the next couple years are
Buenos Aires, Argentina
and either New Zealand or Australia through their working holiday program (or whatever it's called for US citizens). In Australia, probably Melbourne, I haven't thought too much about NZ.
In the US, probably Seattle. Maybe Chicago. |
