Does anyone know how much the KTX is to go from Daegu to Busan? Also the operating hours of the KTX???

There are such things as "search engines" on the net.
With them, you can find relevant websites that hold all the valuable information you need, without having someone else do the legwork. You may even find tourist information numbers etc! Its amazing. Or you could even get a korean friend to call the train station.

I do not know the daegu-busan route price of the top of my head. Gwangmyoung station (southern Seoul area) to Busan is errrm, about 50? (because 1st class seats are 70).

Oh - those are 1-way prices.

The Busan train station is also - ta-da! - also in the same station as the subway station. So you can just go straight from there to one of the 3 main beaches - tourst info desk in the train station can set you up. Or take the sightseeing bus from just outside to the beach - you can see the route map at the outside.

It's been awhile, but Kwangali was in a slide when I was there last, Hyundae was ALWAYS jammed with people (foreigners, and those who like to take pictures of them, usually congregate together in fromt of one of the big hotels), and Songjung (?) to the north was the one I preferred. There was a GREAT little beachfront yogwon there, shaped like a windmill, that had privacy balconies looking out onto the water.

I just checked.

Dong-Daegu to Busan is 11,600 normal class or 16,200 first class.

You were right about Gwangmyeong.. normal is 49,200 and first is 68,900.

I was being nice/polite, but Julius does have a valid point, even if i don't like his approach -

as a former mod, this forum is JAMMED with archived threads of the same topics done over & over & over. During the Lemon/Waterbaby, etc. years, there was an effort to consolidate/clean up as much of the redundancy as possible, by partial deletions, mergings, splits, and FAQ sections. A whole bunch of new forums have been created since then, as well (we used to just have 3? 4? - general, off-topic, and BST at one point, if I remem right).

The thing is- Korail is in Korean. How do we know that the OP knows how to read Korean? And even if he knows how to read it, how do we know that he understands what he is reading?

And before you tell him there is English - I've just checked. I clicked on *online reservation* and it takes you to barota.com, which doesn't exist anymore. Thus rendering the English version of the website useless.

My question is why the hostility? If you don't like what he's asking, just skip it... no need to berate or belittle him.

Just so you know... KTX from Dongdaegu to Busan is almost no faster than the Saemaeul.

The high-speed trackage is only complete between Seoul and Dongdaegu. From Dongdaegu to Busan the KTX runs on the normal Gyeongbu line trackage. Only difference is that the KTX makes a couple fewer intermediate stops.

This is reflected in the fact that KTX fare and Saemaeul fare between Dongdaegu and Busan are so similar.

Sometime in the next year or two, the high-speed track from Dongdaegu to Busan is scheduled to open. At that time, expect to see the fare rise. But 'til then... Saemaeul will get you there nearly as fast.

to be perfectly honest you would be silly taking the ktx from Daegu to Busan. The normal train is a hell of alot cheaper, and also the time difference is about 14 minutes.

We just tried to find the same information for our friend who is visiting from Japan. We first tried the KORAIL site. Once you click on English, you get an Internal Server error. No English info. IF you can read Korean, you can figure it out somewhat on the Korean main page, but if you cannot, it can be difficult. We were trying to find a KTX from Yongsan to Pusan and it kept displaying a message we didn't understand in Korean. (Hubby is not the best at reading Korean.)
So I came here and searched on Dave's. KTX brings up a broad range of threads. The one that has the useful information was under KORAIL. Then you have to read through the thread "Possible to make Korail reservation?"
to find merrilee has linked to ANOTHER thread, "Making train reservations on Korail" which has the valid link to http://www.korail.com/en/.

IF the person is new to Korea, they may not know to try searching Dave's under Korail instead of KTX. If you search under Korail, merrilee's thread is listed 4th. "Possible to make Korail reservation?" comes up 3rd so it can lead to the process I just described. We tried google and galbijim first, but both came up with sites that would not load.

Yes there are loads of threads about this, but it does not mean it is easy! I don't blame the OP for posting asking about it!
Is there a sticky for this? If so merrilee has the right information needed to check the schedule in their thread.

Why are there so many problems with the Korail website? It takes about 1 minute to find all the information needed, and all in English.
