Just download Google tool bar and save her bookmarks on that.

is she using IE?

file > export and follow the instructions

new computer/reinstall

file > import follow the instructions

If you are using IE7 and can't see the file menu press alt and it will appear.

Or if she is using firefox

-Bookmarks

-Organize bookmarks

-File

-Export

(then save the small file)

after the re-install same procedure but Import instead of export.

I don't mean to hijack this thread but.... i think the OP's question has been answered and my question is somewhat relevant.

Where are the bookmarks saved in Firefox?

I have a laptop that died on me. It won't boot off the hard drive but I can manage to boot off a linux live CD for about 20 minutes before the computer shuts down on me. From the CD, I have access to the HD files and my office network, I managed to salvage all my important files by transferring them to another computer on the network but I would like to find my Firefox bookmarks and save those as well.

Is there a way I can access them from the file system without booting from windows?

Show hidden files and folders in folder options. Apply to all folders.

C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\Local\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\XXX.default

Remove the HDD and use a USB case to access it.

If I read this correctly: You have already formatted and now want to recover the bookmarks? Ain't gonna happen easily.

Firefox has an excellent Add-on called Foxmarks.
All your bookmarks are stored on th efirefox server; you can sync on any computer where you log in to firefox.

Share bookmarks at work and home, really nice and easy to use. Smile

Many times I am sure I have bookmarked a page, spend ages looking for it, only to find out I saved it on another computer Mad .

EDIT: Install firefox on the gf's PC, import her IE bookmarks and then sync with Foxmarks before closing.
