Anyone in the know as to how far the powers-that-be are going to ease restrictions on C4 visas?
I'm finishing up my current E2 this summer and wouldn't have minded trying out a summer camp to finish off my time in Korea, but it all seems like a whole lot of hassle to jump through all these new hoops for a visa I'm only going to use for one month. |

probably right around the time camps start and no one can get their c4 processed immi will decide it's time for a change.
you don't really expect them to plan ahead do you??  |

Probably right.
I suspect the CRC will be quietly dropped by the individual immi. offices in response to pressure from the universities, schools and hogwans.
Trying to get the check sorted but not sure it will be back in time for the start of the camp. I heard the public schools are putting teachers into classes with CRC checks pending. My friend's has been "pending" for over six months!! Hopefully there won't be too much grief if its not signed and sealed by the first day. |

How do you get a visa with a pending CBC? |

As far a I understand, the public schools need teachers ASAP but police checks are taking too long to come through. Therefore, the local immi. office said that teachers can be put into classrooms while there CRC/CBC is being processed.
If it were to transpire that a teacher had a criminal conviction, their visa would be revoked, I suppose. |

Now this makes sense and would solve alot of problems.
Here's my proposal:
Immi should offer "conditional" VISAs. Have applicants sign a form saying that they believe they have a clean CRC. Similar to the "Self Heath Check Form". Immi could then provide a 90 to 180 day window for applicants to produce said document. This way schools wouldn't lose teachers who want to extend for short periods of time.
Let's say you want to extend for 2 months. You sign the self-check CRC form, get your VISA extended, then return to your home country. At home, you get your CRC and have it forwarded to a Korean Embassy or Consulate. They verify the document, pass along the info to Immi, thereby allowing you to apply for another VISA in the future (if you don't hand over a CRC, immi would blacklist you). The CRC that you provided would be valid for 6 months. |

How did Korea manage before these new regulations? Thousands of foreigners have been here without criminal checks. Do you honestly think another few months will hurt?
Plus, not all Sex offenders have criminal records. Many of them never get caught or prosecuted. The worst thing Korea could do is let her guard down and assume that everyone who produces a clean record is a law abiding citizen.
Don't get me wrong. Criminal Checks are helpful but let's be reasonable with the process. |
