|
|
The anti-USA beef propaganda has spilled over into a large movement to slur Lee Myung Bak's name in any way possible.
It's reached nutty levels.
I received a text message today from some spam source saying that LMB wants to sell Dokdo to the Japanese. My wife had already heard about that. It sounds like it's all connected with some people hating LMB's beef proposals.
Anyone else heard more from wives or coworkers? |

My friend said something to me about this...I simply replied, "Why would they buy something they already own?" I just couldn't help it. That button is just too easy to push. |

Check out this link from the Korea Times. Talks about how foreign investment has totally nose-dived in Korea as a result of Koreans' hostility towards foreign investors. Gosh...who could have seen this coming? I bet Koreans are really happy they wasted the past four years harassing the American company Lone Star now. Maybe if they keep the candle light vigils going for four years Koreans will have their new visa free entrance into the USA renegotiated. Oh, yeh. Koreans have over one million names on an online petition to impeach President Lee also. Koreans finally have a president that truly wants to work with the rest of the world (Japan included) and they want to impeach him over cheeseburgers. Only in Korea!

If you look at the drop in foreign investment in Korea, Koreans are doing a pretty good job of messing up their own economy without anyone else calling for a boycott. |

Wow, and that's recent too...read something like this months ago and I guess the chickens are coming home to roost. Sad.

This is pretty much the truth. Being back home, whenever someone asks me about Korea, I have to go...ehhhhhhhhhh, roll my eyes, and get them ready for a long conversation. I have such mixed feelings about the country because of *beep* like this. One step forward, three back.
Whatevs, I'll be back in a week |

No Visa Waiver Program for Korea! We don't need anymore freeloading Koreans in America, dammit. |
My, my. Someone is using racism as an expression of his inner turmoil. |

My wife was translating some news story this morning (in all seriousness) about how Koreans have a gene that makes the susceptible to Mad Cow Disease. The gist of the piece was that, should one Korean get the disease, ALL koreans will get it. Not some. Not most. ALL!!!
She said that Koreans only had a problem with the bone, not the beef. When I pointed out that they threw shit over beef without bone, she had no answer. I then went into a rant about how the US should slap keep their beef and then slap a 500% import tax on all things Korean and cripple the economy.
Considering I am not an American, and would not eat US beef under any condition (the UK are not very strict on what food we allow, but US beef is banned thanks to the growth hormones) I can only put my sudden bout of allegiance down to the fact that I sick to death of sensationalist news stories design to inflame rather than inform. |

Can she give us the url for the news story? Because I couldn't find any article that exactly says somethng like that while there are many articles that make mention of the genetic susceptibility issue. Bad translation?

She's obviously not well explaining what's being commonly talked about. She's almost being a medium for a strawman.
As for the silly Dokdo thing, I could only read about it in some spam copy-and-paste comments. Not in any major news source.
It seems some people can't get the idea that there sure are TONS of articles regarding this issue with different perspectives in the Korean media at the moment while the PD Diary show was the sensational one that provoked significant public fear. Most things you say as if it is only you who can think of them are already mentioned all over in the Korean internet although apparently some would only want to take whatever suits their agendas. |

Thousands demonstrated against US beef this past weekend, and these crazy things they were saying were all over the news. I sat and watched it with my wife, and walked past a demonstration or two.
Don't try to gloss this over like it's some kind of minor blip on the news screen, Dog. There are counter opinions, but the degree to which so many Koreans believe the negative is what the rest of the world finds insanely comical.
The counter opinions are not the ones making headlines. |

Previous post explains cleared things up. WAs with girl for 1st real date after meeting her in Insa-dong Saturday night, and we're looking at signage for, of course, Korean food.
"We can't eat American beef, we'll go crazy from Mad Cow."
I laughed. LOUDLY
Of course, she had a great waistline and legs, but pertinent to the "Don't Do it, Boys!" everywhere else, so no big loss. |
