Police Chief Told to Stop Winking While Discussing Anti-Prostitution Law
October 3, 2006
In a formal statement by the city council, Seouls Police Chief Lee Wonsuk was told to stop doing exaggerated stage winks while discussing the Special Law on Prostitution in public settings. As police chief, Lee is responsible for enforcing the two year-old law which aims to eliminate prostitution. But the city council accused Lee of half-heartedly supporting the law and undermining its credibility.

Specifically, the council cited a press conference last month where Lee winked obviously after making the statement, And thats why were doing our best to stop prostitution. The council accused Lee of performing several other inappropriate actions while he discussed his dedication to the law, including smirking, eye-rolling, doing a sarcastic thumbs-up, and repeatedly making the jack off gesture with his hand. Lee was also heard making the statement, Sure, Ill be investigating a few prostitutes tonight pesonally, and then nudging the mayor in the ribs with his elbow and laughing loudly.

In addition, Lee was asked to stop referring to the Ministry of Gender Equality as the Old Bitch Commitee.

I ALMOST believed that was a real article.

Stop reading the Korean Times - learn Korean and read the Chosun Ilbo. You can't even find most of the 'news' that the KT publishes within any of the mainstream Korean newspapers.
Do yourself a favor. Consider the KT as spam. Good for making a paper mache perhaps.

Curiously, the second sentence of the article is this:

However, the deep-rooted xenophobic atmosphere has encouraged migrant workers to meet their sexual desires through illegal means.

Really, that article is outrageous. I don't think it's alone, though.

I ran out of gas on my motorbike one night in the boonies. I flagged passing cars and no-one would stop. Tired of this, I walked to the nearest house with a light on (it was 11pm). I met an unmarried couple, living common law. She was originally from Seoul but, 6 years ago, moved to the country because of doctor's advice (weak heart). Where she worked as a dressmaker doing contract work. Her partner was a vet, apparently, but got out of that and works as a carpenter. I told her that I'd waved to cars but NO-ONE would stop.

She said that the media, so often, talks about foreigners as having criminal tendencies. A very level-headed, unorthodox pair of people, about 35, who'd opted out of the ratrace.

I don't really see what's so strange about this. Just imagine you're back home, in the boonies, driving at 11pm and you see a big-scary black man. Would any sane person stop for him? HELL NO!

Not even other black people. Only a tough guy redneck would stop, and there are none of those in Korea, so SOL.

Hmm... In the smaller city I live in big industry is largely kept out because of our proximity to the country's fresh water supply and as such the migrant worker population is very low. There are; however, 다방s by the score surrounding nearly every apartment complex and a large cheap hotel district. We're talking an eighth of the city. I can see it out my window. A few of these places decide to cater to the growing migrant worker population and suddenly it's a problem? Korea needs some serious, liberal, free media that hopefully someone will pay attention to. Is it out there already only in Korean that I don't understand?

Suwon station is a real cesspool of filth . They actually have a alleyway that is reserved for foreign customers. Most of the woman in that alleyway are adjumma style short tacky perms. It's disgusting. I don't know why they don't just beat their meat. It's cheaper. The orgasm is basically the same.

Gee, I thought most Korean's didn't talk to the police about this.

EXACTLY what I was thinking.

Koreans accepting responsibility for the negative effects of their shitty attitudes toward foreigners? Shocked Oh-wa!

This is the most (possibly sole) logical sentence in the article. The rest is just racist dribble which reinforces this one perfect sentence.

You guys do realize not all dabangs provide "special" service. Some do and some are just coffee shops. I'd say if you see a young women in a mini-skirt and a few of those cheap scooters outside, it would be a safe bet it does provide something extra. If you don't then it's just coffee and tea.

Anyways, continue with this interesting thread.
