|
|
So,
I have a pile of Nikon gear...
But,
I want to get a Canon body to use a 'special' lens that will soon be winging it's way to K-land.
However,
checking Danawa.com's price list I come across 3 different price categories for the same item:
a) Canon EOS 40D (비정품) 954,000
b) Canon EOS 40D (정품) 115,000
c) Canon EOS 40D (정품패키지) 1,346,000
I realize the lowest price is grey market, but what of the other two? Does the middle price have a Korean warranty? If so, why would anyone pay into the highest price category?
If there are any Canon vets who can fill me in, I'd greatly appreciate it. |

C is a package deal. Probably comes with a few lenses, case, extra memory, battery, etc...
A would be a Canon specifically to be sold in the Korean market. Which means you'll get to take advantage of the local AS service centers.
The middle price can be anything. Someone could've listed a Canon EOS 40D as the item title when, in reality, they are just selling an accessory. |

So, you're saying there is no grey market pricing on Danawa? |

I realize this thread is 3 months old but in case anyone else is searching, pkang0202 is wrong, 비정품 = gray market (probably Japanese model with Japanese warranty or no warranty), 정품 = Korean model with Korean or worldwide warranty. Same camera, different warranty. Sometimes Japanese models have different names, e.g. a 450d 비정품 = Kiss X2. 패키지 obviously = package.
Check out the buttons on this one: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v408/g60/misc/canon30d.jpg |

they used to write 내수 for gray market ... but changed it to 비정품 ... which sounds better. 정품 means authorised distributor products.
people seem to think that 비정품 means cheap chinese knockoffs. it doesn't. it means that it's the real deal, just distributed through non official channels.
if canon distributors import cameras, they add their percentage to the sale value. this can be anywhere from 50,000 won to 300,000 won, depending on the equipment.
if the camera is imported unofficially, then the price is cheaper because canon korea doesn't get a cut.
the only downside here is that, because 비정품 is so popular, the authorised dealers won't recognise the warranty. however the warranty is recognised globally. so you only need to ship it to hong kong or japan for warranty repairs.
in 10 years though, i've never needed warranty repairs. the 3 most common camera problems (theft, water, dropping it) are not covered by warranty ... which means you pay for the repair and it can be done here. |
