I just don't understand the travel mentality of Koreans. I have this Korean aquaintance, and IMO, she is being closed-minded and stupid. She is going to be on a European trip from May 5th-June 17th. She complained on her cyworld page about a month ago, saying she is scared of bedbugs in Europe and asking for people to please give her some Euros.

So, she left yesterday. I just saw where she has logged in to the website of the place where she used to work. I mean, she just left, and she is already getting on a webpage back in Korea. On her cyworld page, she tells everybody that today she is sitting in Japan waiting for her flight to London, and she is already missing her family and friends. She says she will be FIGHTING until June 17th. She also said something about a crazy American and about how she regrets that she will miss MBC's Muhan Dojon concert while she is gone.

JUST STAY IN KOREA!!!!!!!!!!!!! Why leave if you are already whining????? This is the same girl who had to have Korean restaurants and ramyon while she was in Hong Kong for a week. Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

So, I'll never be jealous of Koreans who get to visit Europe before me, because they don't really enjoy it...they only take pics for their cyworld pages saying they liked it. But when you ask them, they will tell you they didn't really like it so much or that they hated it. hahahahaha!!!

Even one of my friends went to Europe in 2005, and on her cyworld page, she showed a pic of what she ate and drank in France. It was a pic of coffee and shin ramyon. Funny. Laughing

After reading the OP and then this I started laughing - reminded me of the SNL skit with Chris Farley, David Spade and someone else...the GAP girls down at the mall.

Hm... Is she hot? Razz Maybe your friend should travel to Finland because we don't have bedbugs (Cimex lectularius) anymore. They all got terminated!

EDIT: Dang, bedbugs are trying to come back! Damn foreigners and tourists!

Quote:
Tourism has often been blamed for the growing number of bedbug outbreaks.
"The problem normally blows up after big tournaments and sports events", Siltala reports.
"Some actions are being planned in order to prevent the spreading of bedbugs in hotels", Siltala explains.

It is worth trying, as these parasites are difficult to eradicate once they have made an appearance.
"One has to perform the treatment of all shelters for bedbugs four or five times. Typically, infestations can be detected behind baseboards, in cracks near the bed, and crevices in the bed frame, behind paintings, and in the seams of upholstered furniture", Siltala notes.

An infestation is associated with dark staining of the mattress from bed bug excreta.

Bedbugs are not a sign of untidiness, as they are attracted by exhaled carbon dioxide and body heat, not by dirt, and they feed on blood, not waste. However, good hygiene will help to keep bedbug numbers under control.

While hiding in cracks and crevices during the day, the parasites come out at night and feed on the blood of humans.

The consequences of a bug bite are not always recognised. Health care personnel should be retrained in how to identify a bedbug and the itchy rash resulting from its bites, suggested a recent edition of Duodecim, the most important Finnish general medical journal, published by the Finnish Medical Society Duodecim.

The journal described three cases in Finland, in which a bedbug bite had caused the victims red spots on the chest and a red blistery rash. In some cases, the bites have also caused a nettle rash.

Originally the bedbug was a parasite that infested bats. According to one reported case in Finland, some bedbugs dropped through the ceiling into the bed from the bat community resident in the attic of a summer cottage.

A bedbug can survive without blood for as many as eight months. It can remain alive even in cold weather conditions, up to -15C, for example at summer cottages that are not heated in the winter.

I understand what you mean, princess... A lot of Koreans seem to have a fantasy about Europe (maybe from all the CFs on TV?) and go there in hopes of getting the perfect picture of themselves sipping coffee at a picturesque cafe. I taught a woman who showed me such staged pictures of herself in France. It was really weird.

I was having lunch with a co-worker once and she mentioned she'd been to Rome. I asked her, what did you think?
"I didn't like it too much. Too many old buildings. The shopping was good though."

Not all Koreans travel with these intentions, but Europe seems to be a prime photo-op place for Koreans. As you say, it's all about the cyworld pics.
