As I'm just about ready to make the jump from my Powerbook G4 to an Intel iMac, I'm wondering about others' experiences with these two virtualization solutions. Which is better? Any experiences you've had with either (or better yet, both) of them would be helpful.

Thanks!

Parallels works great, it's nice to have both Windows and OSX running together.

If you have an Intel Core Duo chip, you can just boot up Winblows fully.
New Macs come with Bootcamp, which does this for you. All you have to do is download a copy of Winblows and a good anti-virus program.

I know about Boot Camp. But I'd like to be able to run the occasional Windoze app without having to reboot. That's why I'm looking at virtualization programs.

Never tried VMware but parallels worked a hoot.

I got OEM windoze XP running (very smoothly, thank you) with boot camp and then installed parallels and pointed it at the boot camp install. All went fine with the little wrinkle that I had to call Microsoft Korea ("hello no English" when I pressed the English hotline) and convince them, in Korean, that I was using both installs on the same machine.

But you'd probably have exactly the same problem with VMware. Anyways, it all worked out in the end.

Also, no firewire with Parallels Crying or Very sad but AFAIK that's true for VMware too.

hth Very Happy
