Has anyone tried getting an E-2 visa with a Criminal Records Check from a state they've never lived in? |

Yeah, I'd like to know about this too! I got arrested in 06' for DUI, however it was reduced to reckless driving.
I read the post about some guy who had a friend w/ a DUI and that he's supposedly getting deported. Is this even plausible?
Should I just get a CRC from another county? State? Does it really matter? I called the consulate in Atlanta...no help. They gave me a number to call (Min. of Ed.) in Korea. If I find out anything from them I'll post here.
Anyone know where to find info. on this topic?
Thanks,

I'm not sure if that will work; I got my criminal records check from my local police station a few weeks ago, and I can tell you that you can't just walk in and ask for a Letter of Clearance. I had to produce both my state issued photo ID, as well as declare how many years I have lived in the specific county the police station is located in. This information was (I assume) verified by the officer performing the check.
The reason I'm bringing this up is because, at first, a local check made no sense to me at all. Why would Korean immigration allow a local check if anyone from anywhere can just walk in and ask for one? But after going through the CRC myself, I think you have to get it from the state/county you reside in, or at least lived in at one point in your life.
So, I think the answer to your question is it won't work, but I'm not 100% sure. |

I found out that, at least in my county, an arrest still shows up on a CRC even if there was no conviction.
Also, I called the Min. of Ed. and the rep. said it shouldn't be a problem. I'm still concerned though... |

It depends on where you are from. ANYONE can get my records from the county clerk for $15. |

It would seem that you would have to get a criminal record from the original state that you came from. I got a simple print out that mentioned my criminal record history, which is cleaner then the past two presidents, from the school disctrict that I substitute taught at over nearly a year.
I'm no expert on hiring people, but if you don't have any priors you might be fine with a mark on your record. Nobody is perfect, but I would continue to ask around before. |

here's another question i've been thinking about. do you get it from the state you were born, the state you lived in the longest, or the state you lived in last? |

I would be very curious to find out what your background check ends up looking like. I'm in a similar situation, and I may or may not have a reckless driving that shows up on my background check. In my state (Washington), it is a gross misdemeanor, and I really hope that it's not going to cost me a visa. |

I've lived in 5 different states and I got it from my last state of residence before I came to Korea. What's a state of residence? A state where you had a driver's license, registered to vote, had utility accounts, and so on. |

Took about 45 minutes total; 20 or so to complete the check, and another 20 to get it notarized, since the Notary Public was not at the Police Station.
I live in a fairly small town though, so keep that in mind. I can't imagine what I would have had to go through with, say, the LAPD! |

update* The owner of my school said he spoke with immigration, and they are not concerned with the blight on my CRC.
I'm still concerned though. I guess I'll wait until I have the stamp in my passport until I make my final plans. |

I got my check back, and it showed nothing. That was a real relief. |

I have a Maine drivers license, and all my bank and credit card info is sent to an address in Florida. I have never lived in either state. Which one should I get a CRC in?
I really don't think it will matter too much unless your local PD is anal. |
