If someone was to compare these three cities, what are the major differences?

Particularly ethnic composition, public transportation, etc.

melbourne vs sydney
lived in both places for over 6 months, like both of them.Thinking of returning there to live...probably melbourne.

melbourne has a more european feel, a chinese mayor, better food/cafe bar culture, more european architecture(was the biggest city in the british empire outside london at one point),has a fantastic cheap tram system ..a few beaches, many tiny art galleries

sydney, better weather, slightly warmer(tho melbournians? will argue about that)less green, nasty oversize bars full of slot machines, more american feel, subway system.. beaches, water, water views..the harbour is spectacular

The population is racially diverse of course,in both places ..its bloody australia..many many asian(chinese japanese, korean).I lived in a korean area of sydney(had galbi bbq, hite, kimchee etc)The young korean boys love getting a suped up hyundai and burning around with more "road" than they have in sparkle.
I think half the korean domestic economy is being spent sending their kids to aus to study and also buying property for their kids at same time.
House prices in both cities are out of control.
Aus.will be an asian country in 40 years, chinese spending power is buying up anything not screwed down.

Why don't you just choose one place to live and stay there. Aren't you married and shit?

ahh..once one is "married and shit" one crawls off to the suburbs of one given country and dies...hahahaha.

I GUESS I FORGOT TO READ THE RULES(ROLES) AGAIN.

most wealthy people, post the invention by Whittle of the jet plane, have freedom in this global(snigger,in the real meaning of the word, not the korean B.S. aspirational definition) modern life..and tend to travel continually..have houses in more than one country, experience different cultures, become members of the planet earth/not some wacked construct called a country with a little flag "and shit"

Auckland
-horrible public transport (everyone has a car),
-very multi cultural large numbers of asian, indian, polynesian, middle eastern, south african, european, maori (well everything),
-very big (land area),
-expensive (in terms of wages),
-easy access to beaches, hiking etc, surf beaches 3/4 of an hour from the centre of the city, ski fields 4 hours drive
-weather doesn't snow in winter can get very hot in summer but normally has a sea breeze, excellent air quality
-safety depends where you live and attitude almost impossible to get shot, but if you are in the wrong place at the wrong time then you might get beaten up
-unlike australia the animals here are harmless no snakes, spiders, crocs, etc (the people are a different story) Laughing

If you are thinking of NZ why not wellington? (i lived in auckland most of my life and don't really like it)

I don't think tiger beer would describe himself as "wealthy". I'm just wondering what this constant jetting from place to place is about, especially with a wife back in the states.

1. tigerbeer is a white american(chicago,i think?)...
he lives in many countries, because he can.
he uses jet planes to facilitate this.
he is wealthy compared to the indiginous populations of the countries he passes thu(maybe the japanese have an average wage edge on a white american language teacher, tho? )
this is called fun.
he gets to experience/talk about the comparitive merits of girls from many countries, different beaches, foods and culture etc

and i wasnt talking about him(i dont know him),as you well know,..i was answering your question about why I choose to travel

2.my wife is with me.dunno where you got the "back in the states" bit from.. I have not been there for a few yrs(Im from london orginally),and we cant stand the place(although i worked/lived there a lot during the .com boom..im bad, more global wanderings)

This post is just a post comparing three cities.

I'm not jetting anywhere, nor do I have a wife in the States.

I still get months of paid vacation, and even if I were to travel somewhere, is that necessarily a bad thing? I hope not!

Personal questions aside, let's get back to Auckland vs Melbourne vs Sydney Cool

Auckland - too boring, too violent.

Melbourne - Good place if you like "culture" (food, music, art, architecture, theatre) good mix of nationalities, ok public transport, walkable in the centre and inner city suburbs, good for sports - F1, tennis, cricket, soccer. The casino is decent. Outer suburbs are hellish.

Sydney - Good beaches are its best point. Sydney is bigger and busier than Melbourne with all the positives and negatives than come with it. Public transport going downhill. Walkable in the CBD and surrounds, and in many areas not too far from the centre, beach suburbs included. Outer suburbs absolutely hellish. Casino sucks. Good mix of nationalities but seems to be less harmonious than Melbourne in this regard.

If I'd never lived in any of them before I'd choose Melbourne first, closely followed by Sydney, with Auckland a distant third.

Very good answer. Auckland is pretty boring and expensive. Close to places that have good fishing etc, but nothing amazing.

Its very different to the rest of NZ, hence the term JAFA Razz

C'mon, mate. That's a bit of an oxymoron isn't it. Violence is never boring.

Auckland's not bad. Not nearly as cultured as Melbourne or cosmopolitan as Sydney. But, who needs all that snooty crap when there's Showgirls!

They all sound interesting to me. Would rather go to Aus tho.

Met a gorgeous Taiwanese girl in Taipei years ago, she spoke Auckland English after 4 years there... strangest English accent I've ever heard from an Asian.

auckland is booooorrrinnnnggg, bad weather and hilly, dunno why anyone would want to live there

sydney has good beaches

melbourne seems to have better food, fashion, culture scene

transport is a bit better in melbourne

melbourne weather is shit in the winter months

not sure if this applies to you, but the girls are way, way better in australia than new zealand. bondi beach, yum. some great pubs and theme pubs in melbourne.

i personally wouldn't raise a kid in australia though, for a whole host of reasons.

but from the ones you picked, i'd go melbourne first, then sydney, and auckland in a DIISSSTANT third

brisbane is a really, really cool place that should be considered too. smaller major city that is quickly growing...all around great weather, superb transport system. a little too small for some, but perfect size for me. any specific questions about aus, just PM me...i'm from the US but lived in sydney for 6 years, brisbane for 3.
