Police Lieutenant Colonel Sumreun took up the case and was told by Miss Choi Miryun aged 42 that a bag containing 6,800 Baht, 200,000 Korean Won and 20,000 US Dollars and personal items was taken by a Thai Man who drove beside the group as they were walking along the street. A description of the man was given to Police along with details of his motorbike, however Police have informed the group to expect not to see their cash and valuables again. |

Has she taken the money out in Korea left it at home so she has proof she withdrew it and then went to Thailand and claimed to be robber to get her insurance to pay out? |

| Sounds that way. Why would a tourist need that sort of cash unless she was buying gold jewelry for resale in Korea. Anyhow, did the article mention that she had insurance that covers this sort of thing. I doubt she has. Also, she would have to have proof that she actually brought it to Thailand like a customs declaration. In order to declare that amount of money the authorities would have to count it. |

| Anyone carrying that kind of cash is up to no good IMHO. I would like to know how they got that much cash into the country? Did they take it out in increments at an ATM or what? Sounds fishy to me. Even fishier if the money was somehow "insured." |

That might only be the beginning of her problems. A few years back, Korean entertainers were charged with illegally taking money out of Korea when it was found out that they had lost over 10 000$ gambling in Las Vegas. As far as I know, it's also illegal to bring in more than 10 000$ without declaring the money. Did she declare the money to Thai Customs? If not, that could also turn out to be a problem for her.
As for the statement about people being up to no good with that sort of money... For those who have a 2 million dollar apartment in Seoul, 20 000$ is pocket money. |

Fair enough, but for what reason does anyone need that much in cash? It's their right in to carry that much money if they claim it at customs or in their own country, but if they don't declare it then it's suspicious. Don't you think? |

| Up to no good... I'll stand by that statement. Up To No Good!!! Anyone with that sort of money use a credit card. They do not need to carry that much cash unless they are up to no good! Never heard of Donald trump needing to carry $20,000 in cash! |

 I had never met a foreigner who lived in a $2million apartment in Seoul. The closest I came was meeting a Leautenant Colonel who was living in a $5000/ month villa in Hannam Dong (though the rent was paid for by the Army)...that lucky SOB brought a different girl home EVERY SINLGE NIGHT!!!!!!
I would have to second the notion:
~ Anyone bringing that kind of money was up to something like gambling or what-not.
and
~ She'll have some questions to answer as to how she got 20 million won ($20,000) out of Korea without declaring it through customs. |

Not really. People cheat on their taxes all the time, regardless of whether they are otherwise law abiding or not. |

Not all gambling is illegal in Thailand, is it? Maybe she won that money at a casino. |

She may well have been to Cambodia though gambling over the border at ARanypratet
