will be coming over to teach soon but a bit unclear regarding the tax process.......do we get double taxed? As far as I`m aware there is no double taxation agreement between Korea and the UK government, right?
Tried doing a search on the forum but nearly all posts are related to Canadians/US |

No double tax.
If you are out of the UK for 186 days of the tax year you don't pay tax on your earnings. |

If you are in the UK at the beginning of the tax year you are classed as a UK resident, regardless of how many days you are there.
You will be expected to pay UK tax, your Korean tax payments will be offset but you will have to pay the difference.
The 183 day rule only applies if you were out of the UK at the beginning of the tax year and that over four years you have only averaged 90 days in the UK. In 2006, I left the UK in August (143 days into the tax year) and I was liable to pay tax for the 2006/7 tax year.
The only way to legally avoid tax payments is to be out of the UK for the whole tax year. |
