Korean girls at my school (co-teachers) tend to really dress up, complete with ruffles, bows, anything shiny, sequins, shiny high heels, lace collars, blouses, patterned tights, hair accessories, phew!
I never feel the urge to go all out though, i keep my dress code chic yet simple. |

Thanks for the help ciccone. So I'll just wear what I would wear I guess here in the US; slacks and a shirt, cardigan. What are the going out clothes... does anything pretty much go?? |

Keeping it casual is the way to go. In public schools, usually jeans are a no-no unless you are female. Female teachers seem to get away with jeans, though the men all work dress pants, shirt and tie (save the PE teachers and music teacher) |

yes you can wear whatever you wear back home, what makes you comfortable.
as for going out, pretty much anything goes, but koreans dress up a lot once again (think lots of sequins and glittery anything). korean girls rarely show their shoulders and never wear low-cut tops-- that's the only difference.
however they wear the shortest skirts or shorts with high heels, so apparently that's ok. i get weird looks from ajummas when i wear tank tops or show cleavage. |

You should really ask someone at the school what is acceptable and what isn't. Also, err on the side of dressing too nice in the beginning and then dress more casually once you've established yourself a little and can tell what is actually acceptable.
My hagwon said flip flops with the strap between the toes wasn't considered "nice", but once summer rolled around no one said anything to me when I wore mine. |

presentation is huge here, whether we like it or not. i've known excellent teachers who constantly got shit for dressing too casually, as well as guys who didn't even put forth a minimum effort but were treated like saints simply because they wore ties. some other posters may disagree, but i'd say that looking sharp never hurts. i'm not saying you should go all out, but you never know . . . |

I wear jeans to my ps every day. I am about the only teacher who does. My principal complimented me on my shirt the other day
I dress better than the PE teachers, but most of the other teachers dress better than me. I wore my suit the first day.
