I learnt to order food over the phone in my last apartment. I could get most things, but only a couple of places would deliver only one dish, one of them did regular deliveries to the hagwon I worked at, so they were keen to keep us onside.

But now I am in a new area and have had less luck, until a menu turned up this week. It says 한분식 which I think means one person food? And they do, one lovely 돌솥비빕밥 sitting in front of me. Gotta love this country.

I think the 한 means Korean and 분식 means cheap food (flour based food) or common man's food. So 한분식 means cheap Korean food.

I just asked a Korean and 분식 is food that you eat that doesn't quite qualify as a meal (they classify things like mandu, ddukbbokki as such, since there's no rice I guess) and the 한 is definitely one. So the original "food for one person" assessment FTW!

Han bun sik means Korean fast food. Usually cheap and fast, but not always the best quality.

Do it, never look back.
