I am moving to Korea come August and I want to know if I should bring product to keep my hair platinum blonde (white, basically)? I have heard the product in Korea is no where near strong enough....

Also, a Korea kid in my daycare class here in Ontario called me a pokemon character, or perhaps a chicken...I couldn't make it out, because of my hair. Hmmmm, maybe I should rethink this color?

Holy moly, I'm getting old. I used to listen to that band in the late 80's.

Anyways, they have all the colours of the rainbow here, so I wouldn't worry about bringing any products unless you feel the need.

Koreans don't often go blonde well. Tons of brassiness, and getting a professional dye job is hit or miss with that particular color. If you're comfortable doing it yourself, then by all means ship the stuff over.

I just had my hair touched up on the weekend at a salon here (Green Turtle in Itaewon) and it came out well. My hair is caramel to platinum highlights.... it's a bit brassier than if I'd gotten it done back home but I'm pretty pleased with the results given the stories I heard.

If you do it yourself, definitely bring product as the lightest blonde hairdye I've seen is caramel/light brown. No blonde.

Just a heads up.... I bought my colours from my hairdresser back in Oz and had her instructions on how to mix with peroxide. Problem is, the peroxide sold here is not as strong. I needed 12v but that is illegal here (!) and can only buy 6 & 9v (from memory). This can mean that your colour does not lift as well.

I get an OK result, but the secret is in toning (as you probably already know!) and stocked up on toners and shampoos prior to coming here. I have never seen a blonde toner in my 18mths in Korea. That I think is the key! Bring your own colours and toners.

Can you bring bleach (peroxide) on the plane? I thought it was a banned substance?

I reckon the Peroxide they sell here is fine. I used it when I ran out of some that I had brought from home. I dye my hair red, though...not sure if that would make any difference.

I don't think there is a problem with packing peroxide in your checked luggage...I did it. One 100ml lasted me about 6 months (dyeing my hair twice).

In the end, you'll probably be happier to bring some products you've used and are familiar with, rather than waste time worrying about it.
