Lebanese military calls for calm

The protests and disruption have affected all parts of the country

The Lebanese army has warned that its unity will be threatened if the
political crisis in Beirut continues.

The capital has been largely paralysed by roadblocks set up by
opposition supporters during a second day of protests which started as
a strike.

The leader of the opposition Hezbollah group has meanwhile said the
decision to close its private telecommunications network was a
"declaration of war".

Hassan Nasrallah promised to "cut off the hand" that tries to
dismantle it.

"We are now embarking on a totally new era," he told a news conference
in Beirut.

The decision is tantamount to a declaration of war... on the
resistance and its weapons in the interest of America and Israel

Hassan Nasrallah
Leader of Hezbollah

The Shia factions, led by the Hezbollah movement and its allies,
oppose the Western-backed government while the Sunni and Druze
factions support it.

I have no sympathy for Lebanon. This country has to realize that Hesbullah is probably a bigger threat to THEM than it is to Israel or the west. But they don't seem to care, as long as Hesbullah keeps kidnapping and blowing up westerners or shooting rockets at Israel.

You apparently don't know much about Lebanon. The majority of Lebanese do not like or support Hezbollah. Elections were held in 2005 and those who oppose Hezbollah won that election. The problem is the Shiites strongly support Amal and Hezbollah in a militant position and Michel Aoun acted as a Christian cover. The good news is that the first poll I saw among Shiites showed only 9% opposing Hezbollah. Then, the poll I saw after that saw it go up to 14%. I hope it is around 25% in terms of Shiite opposition against Hezbollah. The more Shiites oppose Hezbollah the easier it is to stop them.

So if the country doesn't realize that, why is it confronting Hizballah now? Why do you think the country hasn't had a President for nearly half a year now?
