I came across an interesting offer in Busan for teaching M,W,F,Sa for $1.9
I like the idea of having 3 days off but the pay is a little low and I don't get two days off in a row, but only working 4 days sounds nice and I think I can make it up the income other ways.

Has anyone heard of doing this or is this a red flag ??

I would rather work 3 weeks M-F and take the 4th week off. Agree to work weekends if they allow you to take the 4th week off and first week of the following month. I know it's a longshot, my previous school didn't accept it, but this would give you 2 weeks off and 6 weeks of teaching.

As far as your specific offer, it all depends on the school, students, teachers you might be working with, etc...

If the school won't go for what I suggested above or you don't like it, maybe you could accept the offer on a 2 or 3 month trial. If it works out, then you could continue.

Another thing, if you do take it, try to make sure you can work at a second location with them. From past experience in Japan, funds get really low when it comes to these part-time arrangements. It seems great at first, then you get a few part-time jobs which end and you don't realize you are out of cash until it reaches the ramen noodle stage.

A buck ninety isn't very much......

Anyways, that pay is pretty low and not having two consecutive days off would suck. I wouldn't do it... never.

I'd probably do it Monday to Thursday, depending on the hours on those days. But never having 2 days off in a row would suck.

Depends on the hours too, as well as decency of boss, co-workers, classes, housing...and other things

I saw an ad for Monday to Thursday for 2.3 mill and applied and took the job and di it for a year, at the hagwon I'm at now, and I had TONS more energy with three day weekends every week. (my second year here another teacher left and I had to work fridays, but at 2.5 mill... I really have missed those 4-day workweeks... but they only offered it because they wanted an experienced and trained ESLer to satisfy the parents given the very high tuition rates - the most in town - the hagwon charges for supposedly "elite" level education... they wanted me to work fridays right from the moment they hired me, contrary to the fridays-off in the ad and the contract, but i insisted nicely from the get-go that i get fridays off, and so sis for one year).

I dunno about having to work every second day. That sounds great if you have a family or are working on a distance grad degree or something but it'd feel like you're always working to never have 48 hours off at one time wouldn't it?

uh huh....no way.... Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

and no Saturdays!! Twisted Evil Twisted Evil
