It's worth noting I thought that the first season of the American version wasn't really that special, but the second season was better, and the 3rd was great.

The UK office they never humanized the characters. Garth was always a git. David Brent (the boss) was always a venal jerk. The US office they've blurred the lines and shown each character has a softer side. I didn't like it at first but when you're only doing 12 eps you can get away with having a 1D character that we're happy to howl at as he twirls his mustache. When you have an open ended series, you got to give the actors and characters more range. I'm on board now.

Can't really speak for the US office but the reason the UK one was so cringeworthy was the fact that most of the idiots you work with in British offices have no soft side, they are just plain twats. They're your work colleagues, usually you have no interest in finding out if they do have a soft side. What made it most life like was Brent's jokes and then panning round to the quiet office and nobody laughing at his jokes.

That's just the cultural difference with the two.

Anyone catch the SNL digital short about the Office during the season finale?

If not, you should.

Both the US and UK versions are good. They do seem to spoil things in america by making too many episodes though. Curb your enthusiasm was classic but even that was a bit shit in the middle. Whatever. I suppose in Britain they make too few (when the show isnt on BBC1).

Ive watched every episode of both the US and UK shows and the best bit IMO was when Michael went to acting class and was an FBI agent in every scene.

'Peep show' is better than both shows.

Its definitely hard to enjoy the US version of the office after being used to the original series, its hard not to compare and the US version just falls short. Its alright though compared to most of the sh*t being churned out.

I heard they were making a US version of spaced, I hope not.
