Just handed the OP's poem to a friend who arrived in Korea six weeks ago. He's being royally screwed by his hogwan wonjangnim (I wonder if that means 'unethical b@stard' in Korean). He had a good laugh, happy to know that others have endured what he's going through at his 'academy' (ahem). People should print off the OP's poem and anonymously send it to their wongjangnim. Better still send it to the Korea Times or one of those expat rags in Seoul. Funny stuff.

A hagwon boss' lament.

Oh where art thou now oh exotic foreign teacher,
On whom my business relied,
I made you teach 46 classes per week,
And now you've slipped into the night.

The lack of forward thinking,
and the fact that you have ran,
Has left me truely up shit creek,
For there is no contingency plan.

I'll cover the classes as best I can,
but when the mothers realise,
that there is no foreign monkey dancing,
they'll surely cut their ties.

And so I say to you selfish foreigner,
46 classes, no breaks, average pay,
Why ever did you run from me,
your workload was a Korean's holiday.

Awesome!

As Homer Simpson would say, "it's funny because it's true."

if you not be 400 poundsi,
you maybe still be aroundsi,
If you no be so blacky,
Maybe i ask you come backy.

I love the head teacher's come-uppance...

Laughing

Here is my contribution

The recruiter

The recruiters name was Ben
You come to Korea When?
Ill come next week
A new job I seek
So I will meet you in ten

To Korea I flew pretty soon
When I got there there was a typhoon
No domestic flight
Oh what a fright
I raced around Seoul like a loon

Finally got to Pohang
Then they say youre vary young
Our parents complain
They say you did not train
And also you dont speak out tongue

Duh! I say help me out
Besides there is no need to shout
Youre manuals suck
You just want a quick buck
Its a shame that I have no clout

No they said its ok
We need your passport today
Its just for a while
And they give me a smile
So we can give you your pay

Then when it didnt come back
I said Hey guys cut the slack
No passport, no teach,
Id rather be on a beach
I dont care if you give me flack

Here is a transfer they said
You can go to this school instead
Youll move to this city
But isnt it pretty?
Your passport goes to the head

Great I say round the bend
I work here every weekend,
My friends wedding party
Is on Saturday smarty
What do you plan to do then?

Ill get other teachers to cover
And I can return the favour
I am too tired
If you go youre fired!
Gees, what are you my mother?

So I took a days trip
Without giving her lip
Bad teacher, bad teacher
Says the old preacher
That is the point where they flip

Here is your passport they say
We cancelled your visa today
You must get the ferry
Go in a hurry
Of course we will give you no pay.

Great I say, 'thats the rule?
I need time to find a new school'
No! you will go home,
My countrys like rome'
But I dont have to you fool!

I am still in Korea today
No, I didnt get pay
I do hold a grudge
Never went to a judge
But Im still here so what can I say?

LOL. Some of you people are really talented.

(Sorry, I like looking through old posts. There's some gems from the past. This one had me laughing out loud in the staff room. Confused )

Agreed.

I do enjoy trolling through the ESL archives in search of classic posts. Appreciate the time and effort the OP put into this one. LOL funny at times, just plain insightful at others. Very Happy
