Crap or not crap.

I've noticed that old threads keep getting randomly bumped. The thread starter and most of the posters have gone, what is the point in trolling threads that re 4+ years old just to bump it?

Poll to follow.

If not crap, why not?

I voted 'no' partly for nostalgic reasons and partly because some of the old threads that get resurrected contain topics that haven't been touched upon in eons.

Maybe there is a reason they haven't been touched upon in eons. Wink

I think it is thread dependent...

Some things that were true are no longer the case
"How to get a visa" threads for example.... circumstances for new and renewals ARE different post 12/15.

but some things here just never change.....

"How can I get by hakwon to pay for my last month's pay, severance and return flight?"
"What do I do with my kindy kids?"
Where can I get western (read American) food and stuff?
"My boss is an ass."
"Who is the best internet provider?"
"Psychiatrist, counselor counsellor therapy in Seoul thread."

How could it be crap?

Threads don't really die. They just go to purgatory until Tiger Beer ressurects them!

I'm all for it.

It's funny to read stuff I wrote 5 years ago. And some of the awesome posters from back then make good reading.

They usually get bumped because someone actually used the search function and decided to bump an old thread rather than creating a new one. Plus, anyone who posted in the old thread will see it pop up in their "new posts" search, are likely to read it and maybe even respond. I for one would rather see old threads bumped than new threads created repeating the same old crap.

There is no point in it. It is utter crap if following the "just for the hell of it" line of thinking.

threads that are 4+years old but still have some relevance aren't so bad.
