|
|
Hi guys, I'm just wondering if anybody knows the rules on getting a short extension on your contract? Can they just 'extend' it by sending in a form if it's less than a year?
Our concern is we want to stay and extra 3 months so we go home in the spring, but our director has now shown with other teachers that he can be stubborn and arbitrary.
For example, a fellow teacher wanted her return flight home to be to thailand instead of Canada. This would be cheaper for him and was in no way an inconvenience for him, yet he said he would only pay for half of it. He said all the other schools in our franchise do it that way too.
But when the teacher said she talked to the other teachers, their school had no problem helping them out. To which he replied, "well, every school's different".
So I want to be prepared when we enter his office to talk about it.
Does anybody know the rules for extensions? My friend at another school just stayed an extra month, no hassle.
Thanks in advance |

man that airline thing sucks!! Our boss will route you anywhere you want so people spend months in different countries on the way home and the boss pays for all the flights. |

You can get a work extension for 1-365 days.
The process and fee are identical and do not depend on the length of extension.
You will need:
1. Visa Extension Application
2. Passport and your Alien Registration Card
3. New contract with end date clearly marked - extension will be until that date (so look on the calendar and make it on a weekend so you don't need to leave on your last day of work).
4. Sponsorship Certificate (from school)
5. A copy of Certificate of School / Business Registration (from school)
6. Processing Fee
7. New Criminal Record Certificate, apostillized or notarized by your embassy in Korea
8. New Health Check Certificate

can I ask a stupid question?
if you were in Korea for say the past year.. why would you need a NEW criminal record certificate, when the one you used to get into Korea was "good" and you have been in Korea since?
that sounds over the top assinine.
btw.. how much of this CRAP does one have to go thru if one renews a contract? |

If you have been in Korea for more than 5 months you would not have submitted a CRC or had a medical (unless you were hired by GEPIK, EPIK or ETIS).
The requirement came into being last December for new visas and just this past March for renewals.
The immigration service claims that you only have to submit it once BUT....
They haven't managed to keep our degree documentation (including transcripts or those who went through the "degree verification process 2 years ago) on file for more than a year at a time so the necessity of being required to re-submit it is fairly high.
Efficiency is NOT one of their strong points. |

If I want to extend my contract by 2 months I need to get a CRC and a medical? I thought that if I wasn't changing jobs then you just get a renewal automatically? This is very annoying! |

ALL extensions to an E2 WORK visa made AFTER March 15, 2008 and that allow you to work require a CRC and medical.
It doesn't matter if the extension is 1 day or 1 year.

contract renewal = extension of status of sojourn = visa renewal = visa extension = call it whatever you want to call it.....
The requirements are still the same.... |

God almighty how stupid these E2 changes are! No wonder I don't know of any teachers who want to renew. If you have to get all this stuff again you might as well get the ticket home and take a break before having to come back to Korea. |

Where are you from? If you are American, I believe that you can get an online CRC, then have it notarized by the American embassy. If you are Canadian, as I did, you will have to send 2 photocopied photo ID's and have someone get the check for you. You will also have to write them a letter stating that you authorize said person to apply and receive you CRC. Then you can have it sent here, and the Canadian embassy will notarize it. As far as the other countries are concerned, I am sorry but I don't know the answer to that. |

thanks, i'm Canadian so I guess I'm going that route. It's nice to know I won't have to fly home for any of this. |
