Ive seen posts on here about people using a divx player and ive looked online to try to find out more about it. But it is confusing because most of the information is about computer software, and not the actual hardware that you hook up to your TV.

I found this on eBay, but it looks so inexpensive that I am not sure if this is the right kind of thing. Is this the kind of thing you guys are using:

there are two different systems you can use

the cheap way is to just buy a DVD player than can play avi files (most can now a days. you just burn avi files on to a dvd (fit about 5-6 700mb movies on to one disc)

or buy a hard drive based system where you have a small box with a 2.5 or 3.5" hard drive and it can decode your movies/tv.

can't help you with brand names sorry, but just do a search for divx on one of the korean shopping sites

I use a TVIX (http://www.tvix.co.kr)

It holds a 3.5 HD. I only have a 500GB HD but they can hold upto 1GB drives now I believe.

Very handy for watching DIVX and .ISO format DVDs.

You could also get a dvix player with usb in like the one I have. If you have a old drive around you can format a small partition in FAT and throw it in a cheap external case. Works for me most of the time except when the bit rate peaks and things start stuttering, but it was cheap so I'm happy with it. Could be just be mine. I have one from this site trupia.co.kr

My DIVX player is the best thing I own.

It might be a Korean brand... Sarotech ABIGS or something. Got it on Gmarket.
350 gigs. 200,000 won. I quickly transfer whatever I download on my computer to my DIVX and hook it up to my TV. I've got tonnes of movies, TV series, photos, etc on there and I still haven't used all the space.

Looks like this, except mine is 350 gigs, not 500: http://www.epowermac.com.au/SHOP/PC/viewPrd.asp?idcategory=&idproduct=179

Zero dollars except for the setup if you buy one with a USB IN. Either way if you like the movie, you have to buy a dvds to backup anyways.

You are aware that it (the one in the OP) doesn't include the HDD and you have to purchase that as an extra (before you can use it)?

Add 100k won to the price for the HDD.

I got the basic (non-wireless) version of this at Yongsan i-Park area for about 120,000 (without HDD) a couple of years ago. HDD cost about another 100,000 and it's been reliable and very handy. It basically works like a DVD player when it's hooked up.
