There's a commercial on CNN at the moment (advertising one of their reports - 'Notes on North Korea' namely with that dreadful British hag Christiane Amanpour) and I literally can't believe how condescending, uncivil and indecent this journalist, whom I detest to begin with, is towards the North Koreans in this commercial.

Amanpour to elderly North Korean women: "I'll teach you a new word, okay? [The new word is] FRIEND!!"

What in the Jesus?? Shocked

That's bad enough, but the way in which she asks other women, her absolutely offensive display of superiority and self-importance, "do you really consider America your sworn enemy?" is bitingly antagonistic and provides immediate and powerful vindication for Shariah Law.

I haven't seen the report in full yet and will do so this afternoon, but Jesus, get off your high horse, Amanpour, you bloody twit!

CNN are invaluable to the expat in Korea, since there's no BBC, but they screw up badly elsewhere also. See Wolf Blitzer and - haha - The Situation Room. What kind of retarded name is that for a show?

And then there's The Campaign Trail ("a seriously entertaining look at the American election" - yeah, sure Rolling Eyes ) with Jonathan Mann saying "join us next time for The Campaign Trail - we'll do lunch!". Huh? Do lunch? What the heck are these people on? And where can I buy some? See also "we never go anywhere without packing heat". Oh yeah? In English please?

oh, come on, that was funny! Laughing I laughed when I saw it. Sooo oblivious to cultural differences: I imagine how it must have been received, a younger person, a non-Korean to boot, telling her they can be friends? and contrary to the dictates of the Beloved Leader of her country? ... Laughing

You know what "packing heat" means don't you? They carry guns, they're extra careful, it's dangerous news they're doing (JOKE!)

A lighthearted and a bit silly look at American politics. The commercial reflects the show itself quite well.

If CNN irritates you then there are PLENTY of online news shows, gawd the most easily accessible kind of online product.

And if you're upset about t.v. at 11 am on a beautiful Sunday you REALLY need to get out and enjoy the day.

G'day.

Thought the same thing when I saw that blip on CNN. I get BBC here in Korea by the way via C&M cable.

I was watching some reporting on the cyclone in Burma on CNN the other night. The news presenter was basically leading the guy that was reporting on the scene on what to say. Essentially that everything was the fault of the military. Every time I make the mistake of watching CNN, I am reminded what a propaganda channel it is.

wouldnt call her british mate...she is iranian, just born in the UK like many rich middle eastern people choose to do for the private clinic and passport...then back to her iranian fathers country.
her family fled to uk during the revolution.

She was named 1997 Iranian Woman of the Year
http://usliberals.about.com/od/thepressandjournalist1/p/Amanpour.htm

Quote:
Shortly after her birth in London, her father Mohammad, an Iranian airline executive, and her British mother Patricia, moved the family to Tehran. The Amanpours led a privileged life under the government of the Shah of Iran.[citation needed] At age 11, she returned to England to attend first the Holy Cross Convent School in Buckinghamshire, England, and then the New Hall School, an exclusive Roman Catholic girls' school. Her family fled Iran after the Islamic Revolution of 1979.

Amanpour moved to the United States to study journalism at the University of Rhode Island. During her time at U.R.I. she worked in the News Department at WBRU-FM Providence. One of her college housemates was John F. Kennedy, Jr, who was attending Brown University; they remained close friends until his death in 1999. Amanpour graduated from URI Summa Cum Laude, with a B.A. in journalism, in 1983

CNN is mind numbing crap tho
nb....on a pointless gossip note, some journos say she was JFK jr.'s lover.

Mainly black people and asians work in Macdonalds in the uk.
you never see a white person working there, sometimes a white student maybe.

This is a wierd thing kyopos like to say, this burger flipper thing....i went to a Macdonalds today in seoul..it was full of korean workers(every single one)..IN KOREA!!

does this mean anything?

does that mean koreans working for american Macdonalds ARE BEING EXPLOITED?
whats your position on this JIM-WE?
is it white exploitation, american imperialism..or a mix of both?
are you angry about it..or do you not eat american beef anyway?
if i eat in macdonalds in korea,im eating korean beef(i assume )but the profits go to america.im certainly served by korean staff on low wages.
should i eat it?
why do i only see ASIANS working in Macdonalds both here in asia and in england(along with blacks ) ?

I would say she is pretty British. Born there, one parent is British and grew up there.
