How many of us have been told by students and friends "if you want to learn Korean you should watch Korean dramas"?

Personally, anytime I watch a Korean drama it simply reminds of how empty, bland and materialistic mainstream Korean society is. A moment ago I saw a snatch of a drama that had an oily, goofy looking salalryman declaring his love to his unnaturally wide-eyed girlfriend in front of five little girls dressed as angels playing "All you need is love" with a set of bells. (Where is the puking into a bucket emoticon?)

Nope, give me EBS any day. Real stories, interesting programmes and down to earth people. I've had some great listening practice and learnt more than I ever wanted to know about treating hemorrhoids tonight. And all of this without a single pouting princess in sight. Just lots of white coats and a few rather disturbing photos.

I want to know why Korean dramas have age limits on them when they start, when there is nothing in them that needs an age guide/limit? Confused

Those aren't age limits, they're IQ point limits.

A scene involving any kiss on the lips, even one that lasts only about half a second, pretty much guarantees a 19 rating... Quite bizarre really.

A modernizing country in some aspects but remaining ultra-conservative in many others.

Having recently given birth and being stuck in the hospital bed I unfortunately misplaced the remote and was forced to watch the same documentary until my husband arrived to rescue me by turning it off. I would rather zone out to a ridiculous drama then look up and old man's rear end anyday!!

That's more than I ever wanted to know about your husband Very Happy .

Congrats on the birth of the baby by the way. Boy or girl? My guess is a girl.

Actually he is a boy. Just gorgeous but man, getting the hang of feeding down is torture! But still, that documentary was seriously too much information for me!!

The typical Westerner will not watch a show if there aren't any body parts! I once told a Korean producer this and she looked at me like I was crazy.Laughing
