Gyeonggi-do public schools are going to be busy both in and out of the classroom with English teachers, from all sorts of backgrounds, ranging from native speakers to Indians to migrant factory workers to Koreans who lived overseas, etc...

Parents will FREAK OUT when they see this at their kids' schools. |

Oh well. Look, as long as the pay is alright, does it really matter in the end how your job is perceived or the diminished social standing your job receives? |

They'll be teaching English-ee. This is a way of backdooring them into the public schools.
The hagwon owners all talk to each other and the Principals all talk to each other. The first principal who tries to pass off someone with lousy English skills and a 2 year "diploma" from a thrid world country will face the wrath of HUNDREDS of parents.
Good.
That Principal will tell two Principals and they'll tell two Principals and so on.

I rather like the basic idea behind this plan. It makes more sense than sending kids to a one week English Village and expect any results. Let it be said that someone would have to stand behind me with a gun to my head to make me do a playground job. |

Results?... the results are inherent... exposure to foreigners will automatically reinforce the belief that K-land is nervana.
I spent two years 'teaching' at English Village... a fellow foriegn 'teacher' actually uttered this statement during an opening ceremony -
"I's gonn'a learn ya to speak English good."
Of course, because the foreigner had two masters degrees and was working on his doctorate, the Ks in charge couldn't understand why I was in coniptions. |

There will be some good English speakers among them though. Some might even have a talent for doing such a job, and a lot of the migrant workers will be bilingual. You can't discount it. Most Korean parents don't have the wherewithall to know who speaks good english or what good English is. The only parents who will object will be parents with kids in schools in Kangnam or other affluent areas. |

It's the managers that put the spin on what the parents hear about the performance of teachers. Good spin=content mothers. |

They'll be officially hired to monitor the playground and will be used to teach English-ee.
They will have thick accents and will have NO CLUE when it comes to even simple idioms.
Even bad Korean teachers will do a better job teaching English-ee conversation.
Parents will FREAK OUT when kids come home and tell them who is teaching English conversation in their schools.
Principals are political creatures who understand how this game is played.
This will only work in a few schools. |

They will get "punked" at school. There are many racist kids who'll use and abuse them. |

It's sad but true. The kids are going to get some real mileage out of Gurpal Singh especially if he dons a turban! The bastard within tells me I would find it funny too |
