|
|
A Korean man who murdered his Vietnamese wife gets sentenced to only 12 years!
Yet the article says:
| Quote: |
| A court sentenced a Korean man who killed his young Vietnamese wife with a relatively heavy punishment. |
Relatively heavy punishment? HELL NO!
If 12 years is a "relatively heavy punishment" for murder than what would an average punishment for murder be?
What would a light punishment be?
It was a tortureous death. This man brutally beat his wife to death. She suffered a lot of pain.
Imagine the hell she was experiencing as she was getting pounded and pounded and pounded and pounded until her was gone. The massive pain. The helplessness. My god!
In fact, this was not the first time he abused his wife. He had a history of doing so. As the article says, the wife was suffering from so much abuse from her husband to the point that she decided to leave him and go back to Vietnam. But unfortunately she didn't make it out in time as he killer her before she could leave.
Just 12 years for murder! My god! It's totally outrageous!

Murderer of Vietnamese Wife Gets 12-Year Jail Sentence
March 13th, 2008
By Park Si-soo
Staff Reporter
A court sentenced a Korean man who killed his young Vietnamese wife with a relatively heavy punishment.
The Daejeon High Court Thursday sentenced the Korean identified as Jang to a 12-year prison term for murdering his 19-year-old Vietnamese bride last June.
The 47-year-old Korean first met his wife through a Korean matchmaking company in December in 2006 and married her in May last year.
Marriages with foreign nationals are prevalent in the rural areas of South Korea.
The Vietnamese woman, who suffered abuse at the hands of her husband and was impeded by a language barrier, decided to leave for her hometown on July 26, 2007, after one month of married life in Korea. But her intoxicated husband beat her to death.
In the ruling, the court said ``We saw the tragedy in which an older Korean male selected his wife in a matter of minutes then treated her like an imported product.''

| Old news and, believe it or not, in Korea 12 years is considered a long sentence, even for murder. Besides, in Canada he could likely plea-bargain down to manslaughter and be out on parole in 5. |

Do you think he'll get probation after a certain number of years or will he be stuck running out the whole 12 year sentence. If so he's 47 now and will be 59 when he gets out.
If he's eligible for probation it's a short sentence.
Shocking that he was only married to her a month. 19 year old woman with so much to live for. Comes to Korea. Month later she's beaten to death by a drunk 'husband'.
What OUGHT to happen is the drunk ought to be compelled to pay her family back in Vietnam some 'blood money'. And if he has no money in the bank then a program where he works but goes to jail when not working. Slaving to make the blood money to pay the Vietnamese family.
That'd be a heads up to other Koreans hoping to abuse foreign wives. Koreans are familiar with blood money. It's a Korean custom that ought to be applied here to bring in some reality coffee and wake certain people up to the fact these foreign wives are humans with families and friends that will miss them.

| In the U.S., you could end up doing less than 10 years for murder. It's quite common. Don't be so alarmed. |

Yeah, well, so many times I hear Koreans say that when in Korea one must abide by Korean customs and, of course, law. That 19 year old Vietnamese woman deserves, her family does, Korean 'blood money'. She can't just 'disappear' over here without her family receiving renumeration. It's bad enough that she disappeared/died horribly and this shouldn't be happening again. Conditions have to be put down to protect these women. |

That's right.
A month or two ago, a white guy high on drugs killed an off-duty Asian American police officer and his wife. Guy gives a sob story and promises not to kill again and got about 5 years.
Shall I use this as an excuse to rant about how all Americans are racist? Or shall I realize that crap happens sometimes and a single incident should not be used to condemn an entire people? |

I love all the crimes that people say routinely happen that come with absolutely no links or verifiable proof of any kind. I'll give it a try:
This one time this guy, a white guy, totally killed a mixed-race couple and then murdered their adopted children, the ones they saved from different war zones in third world countries all over the world. This happened at an unspecified time in the not-too-distant past, so as to seem relevant to the discussion at hand. Furthermore, it makes the brutal and senseless killing of a young woman completely fine because it happens in places outside of Korea!
... yeah, that was easy!
Edit: "Sentencing for murder in the United States has a mean of 349 months and a median of 480 months." That's 29 years on average for a murder conviction, for those of you who don't want to get out a calculator. The information comes from 2002.

How many people did (Canadian) Karla Homolka rape and kill (or help to rape and kill), and she only got 12 years. She's already out and in hiding. |

In this case, it's better the culprit did fall under Korean justice, don't you think? A guy in the UK kills and cuts up his Korean wife and puts her body parts in a fridge, and gets five years. |

Or the time where a Louisiana man gunned down a 17-year-old Japanese exchange student on his front lawn after the student mistakenly went to the wrong house for a Halloween party. Well, the guy did end up getting 30 years for first degree murder.
Oh, wait, that's right, he got off on the "kill the burgular" defense. Nevermind.
