Muay thai, boxing, wrestling, bjj etc are also sports, yet they are actually effective for unarmed combat unlike TKD.

Keyword: unarmed. Weapons are cheap and effective. For MA learn what you like; for self defense weapons rule.

I studied both Judo and TKD as a kid. I ranked in the state, regionals and nationals in the old UJDF. Both have their value, but as others have said, they're far more sports than self defense. If I was going to have a kid learn Martial Arets, it would probably be Gracie Jujitsu, Kick Boxing and Boxing.

You won't see any of the fighters in MMA matches doing TKD. To really kick butt they learn Muay Thai and Jitz. The funniest thing to see is TKD people acting tough when they break those flimsy boards.

Anyone know any Muay Thai gyms in Seoul??

I call BS... Sorry dood but frankly I've seen what a "hapkido" master can do, and what a kickboxer can do and frankly I rather not go up against a skilled striker. Plus in a street fight how many times have you seen wrestling or grapling moves? Street fights come down to strikes and weapons 99% of the time..

I think your blowing hot air.

lol @ 99 % of the times. I've seen quit enough street fights that went to the ground, the other guy may punch harder, but if he has no clue how to wrestle/grapple then often he's done once the experienced grappler gets him on the ground.

I've seen my 5'7 friend beat up a lot of people this way, in fact he's still doing it only professionally now.

Also wondering why you think hapkido is a big joke.. didn't see you post a reason.
