|
|
Hello, all. I've looked around on the forums, but haven't been able to find exactly what I'm looking for. Hopefully, someone knows about this or, better still, has recently done it.
I taught in Korea from Sep. 2003-Aug. 2005 and had an E2 visa. For the last 3 years I've been teaching in other countries. Recently, I was hired by a uni in Korea, so I'm going through the process of obtaining an E2 visa. I'm from the United States, but I'll be going there only very briefly in July before flying to Thailand for a month's vacation and then to Korea near the end of Aug.
My question is, once I get my visa issuance number from Korean immi, will I be able to get the visa from the Korean embassy in Bangkok while I'm there? I'm sure that in the past this probably wasn't a problem, but with the tighter E2 rules, I'm not so sure now. My new uni talked to Korean immi about this, but, of course, immi didn't know, or at least couldn't give a definitive answer. Has anyone else in a similar situation (i.e., out of Korea for a few years, but going back) tried getting a new E2 in Bangkok since the new rules came into effect? Thanks in advance for any helpful responses. |

With 2 caveats you CAN get your E2 in a 3rd country.
A) you have had a previous E2
B) you have NOT had an immigration violation or criminal violation noted in your immigration file. |

I have a similar question if anyone can help. I taught on an E2 last year and stayed the whole year. Unfortunately, I lost my passport while in Seoul and couldn't get the E2 reissued, but I did get a new multiple entry stamp. I'm leaving for a new job next week and am going on a visa run to Japan. Will I still be in the system to get a visa even if it's not physically in my passport? |

Same caveats.... if you are on record (in their computer system) as having a previous E2 AND no immigration violations, then YES, you can get a new E2 in a 3rd country without a consular interview.
