All,

I have attempted to contact the EPIK office via email and telephone using the info posted on their website, but have not been successful. I am in the US, so the time difference makes calling a bit frustrating.

Anyways, I am trying to secure a letter verifying my employment with EPIK from several years ago so that I qualify for a higher pay scale with SMOE.

Does anyone have an inside route for getting a hold of an EPIK official??

Nope. SMOE wants a letter stating that I worked for the entire year. Contracts and pay stubs won't suffice...not that I have those after so long anyways.

I would contact my school, but I taught on a rotational basis at 6 schools for an average of 2 months each. I never really had a base school that was responsible for me. And as we know, Korean education officials are rotated/transferred every 3 or so years, and not even GOD can track my provincial supervisor down at this point.

Is there anyone out there who wants to make an appearance at the EPIK office on my behalf in exchange for a JjyaJjyaMyon lunch when I arrive in August?

Hi, I am reapplying to EPIK and asked them if they kept records from 2004. Since they're run by NIIED now, they said they do not have any records past 2007. I was able to get my employment history from my last school though. They sent it quite fast too. Hope that helps.

BTW, I always contact [email protected] , she always replies within a day but will be out until Thursday.

Oh the Korean Merry-Go-Round....how I love thee!! You know, I also taught on Japan's JET program a while back, and they have every single piece of paper and data bit since the Edo period. Unbelievable. I got my letter from the JET office in under a week.

But Korea? No, it has to mutate the EPIK program, migrate it among different education ministries and offices, and only take the ashtray anf green felt under the desks when moving....

The only thing I have remaining from my past EPIK experience is my old ARC card before it was cancelled...I hope that will suffice.

I remember seeing a thread awhile back. I thought you didn't accept a position with SMOE because you wanted to teach adults?

Yeah, I'd prefer adults...but I also prefer being paid, paid on time, decent housing, and a set schedule. Given the current circumstances of ESL in Korea, there is no way I would risk a hakwon gig (was tempted by several too good to be true offers, though), and the good business ESL and uni jobs require being in-country at the time of application. So SMOE for a year isn't the end of the world. It's SEOUL, and that's what I really want in the long term.

Contact the school district office(s) with the dates and school name(s) where you were employed under the EPIC program. They should be able to produce a 'Record of Employment' the same day.

Now it's GEPIK?! Sigh....

I originally worked in Kyonggi nee Gyeonggi, so I have been informed by the EPIK office that since the "split", any info. on me is at GEPIK's office. Anybody have contact info (name, email, telephone) for the GEPIK office?

I looked at their website, at least what remains of an old 2005 recruitment site, and it's a mess. Sparkling indeed.
