A few weeks ago I caught a student at my school shitting in a urinal. A few weeks before that, a student tracked toilet paper from the bathroom, which had feces on it, into my classroom. It was stuck to the floor under the table in the back of the room and it stank the whole room up. I had to clean that shit up off the floor with gloves and heavy duty cleaner and a mop because the guilty student wouldn't and neither would the janitor. My class went from peacetime to chaos outbreak in a matter of minutes because of it.
This past week someone shit on the floor, (diharrea) in the same bathroom that I caugt the boy dumping in the urinal. It is in a long straight line of diharrea from the door to the toilet stall. Almost like he was hovering with his pants down in a sitting position and floating from the door to the stall as he was letting it all out. It's sick but funny to imagine but it's not funny to have to deal with. It has since dried up but it's STILL there. Seriously, it has been there for a week now, I am not going to clean this shit up. F that. It also is making the hallway smell funky since the weather has become warmer. I mean, seriously, I love my job and all, but this needs to be corrected or I will quit. Flies are coming into my classroom from the bathroom and they are all over the place, my water bottle in particular.
The students will not go into the bathroom because of it (mess on the floor) and the janitor at the school won't clean it up. Clearly, he has to know it's there because he goes in there all the time to take the mops out. As a result, my students sit in class and whine until I take them down the hall to the other bathroom, thus disrupting my lesson plan. It seems like if I want the problem solved, then I am going to have to take matters into my own hands, which sucks, because this is a fine example of what some of us have to go through here. Again, I am NOT cleaning up dried diharrea. F U C K T H A T...
I want to bring this to the schools attention that I have been having problems with this kind of issue more than once and I have only been at this school for a month. I don't think they will do anything about it though. I have a Korean Co-Teacher and she knows about it but I think she is too embarrassed to deal with it, or afraid of what the administration will say to her if she brings it to her attention.
Could someone here write a message for me in Korean if I send them text in English, so that I may personally hand it to the school headmaster myself, addressing her on the issue, perhaps telling the Korean teachers of the younger students how and where to make a proper BM in the restroom? It sucks. I don't want to have to run to the other end of the school to use the bathroom or take the children there when they have to go
(I don't feel comfortable letting them go into the school unattended by themselves as it is an afterschool program and the school is empty When I am there. The tainted restroom is right outside my classroom, so they can go there by themselves. But, since there is a smelly mess on the floor, I get to deal with the problem.)
Really, I need help here. I can't deal with it much longer. |

Yes, it's an Elementary School right near Yeouido. The majority of the children are the children of well off Businessmen/politicians with money, so they come from upper class backgrounds. I think they should know at age 8 or 9 how to conduct activity in the bathroom. This isn't what's getting to me. It's the fact that the mess is just sitting there and nobody can be assed to take care of it. Almost as if they are waiting for the foreign teacher to deal with it.
*beep* that. They can wait until the DMZ disembarks the Korean Peninsula for all I care. I will not clean it up. |

Reason #492 not to teach elementary school. Mind you, I believe that one of my high school girls took a shit in the shed behind my neighbour's house a few weeks ago. |

Same p roblem here but my post was deleted by an apologist mod.
Or maybe Dirty Little Bastard was too strong a thread title.
I am quite amazed by the aparant number of kids with fecal fetish's here. Don't remember any kids at my school when I was young playing with shit. |

Kids will be kids, regardless of their background.
Just because they are kids from wealthy families doesn't mean that they have a good (or civilised?) upbringing. How many of these kids do you think are being brought up by nanny versus their own parents?
Be kind to them... you may be the person they will remember the most when they grow old. |

I can't be kind to a kid who is repeatedly shitting everywhere and smearing it on the walls.
If kindness means getting him mental help then that's as far as I go. Otherwise punish him hard. |

Okay so I just got in the door and went to the restroom to see if it is still there. Going on day four now.
It is STILL there. As many children as there are who run in and out of the bathroom at any given time, I am surprised that I don't see little foot prints in it by this point.
Day four... |

Conduct your classes outside. When inevitably the administration asks what is going on, say the flies from the "saal sa" in the bathroom was making your students want to vomit. |

Sounds like your school has a severe management problem. It's amazing that it's the fourth day and the problem has still not yet been dealt with.
The principal, vice-principal, senior teachers, junior teachers are not doing their job if they know about this and can't get the good for nothing cleaner to do their job. Granted, cleaning up shit would be the last thing I'd want to do if I was a cleaner, but the cleaner took on the job and job doesn't involve cleaning only things they want to clean.
They need to hold an assembly with all the kids to tell them in no uncertain terms that this will not be accepted and that there will be consequences for anyone caught doing this, at least by making the kids caught clean up the mess themselves.
Perhaps, the only way to solve this is to shame your co-workers into getting them to do something about it. Bring up the topic saying how disgusting it is and how disgraceful it is that nothing has been done about it yet, and further shame them by saying this would not happen in your home country or any other affluent country and is reflecting negatively on your view of Korea. I can guarantee that after this, someone will clean the mess. It could burn some bridges on your behalf though so treat lightly.
Good luck. |
