Pathetic. Now if THAT job gets applicants, the teaching community in general has only itself to blame. Blah.

Or the ad was written by a Korean, and one of the most frequent mistakes in Koreans' English is errors of number.

But wait, I forgot: this is Korea, so it must be a scam. Thank goodness mountainous is on the case to pick up on these little things!

Actually, I'm quite happy. I'm satisfied with my job, as evidenced by the fact that I don't need to troll the Korean job forums posting about scams and frauds that may or (more likely) may not exist outside my own mind.

Good luck to you as well. I suspect you need it far more than I.

Very Happy

The FLI (Foreign Language Institute) is on the university grounds but it is actually a hakwon.
The university does have its own English department and hires from time to time.
The vise issued for the FLI is an E-2. Not E-1.

Nah, my memory is pretty clear, allow me to refresh yours...see yabout half way down the page: http://forums.eslcafe.com/korea/viewtopic.php?p=1471629&highlight=#1471629

a "University" offering 1.9, long hours, two weeks of prep time before courses begin + 1 week of grading papers, etc... all unpaid. If you are happy w/the job, great, I don't envy you, trust me Laughing

Ah, okay. Another case of mountainous's poor/selective reading comprehension at work.

Try again... and you'll see that the monthly salary in that contract actually comes out to 2.1 million. Still not high, and I'm making more than that.

But nevertheless, that's why I didn't remember posting a contract for a 1.9 job: because I didn't.

Gotta hand it to you though, mountainous... you're nothing if not thoroughly obsessed.

Quote:
The salary shall be 1,900,000 won per month before tax for teaching 18 hours of classes per week.

Clearly, the contract is for 1.9 million won/month.

You only earn a 200K won bonus when u do curriculum design and creative teaching.

Quote:
There will be an additional allowance of 200,000 won per month for curriculum design and creative teaching.

The contract spells out when you are supposed to do curriculum design:

Quote:
The Teacher will be asked to contribute to curriculum design and development by selecting, preparing and developing teaching materials before the Fall semester begins.

Quote:
The Teacher will report to work two weeks before the fall semester begins to prepare for the following semester's courses.

At best, you can earn 1.9 million + 200,000 during the first month only, unless u do OT.

Reading the contract as a whole is a basic rule of contract interpretation, good luck.

You're an idiot, mountainous.

It says an additional allowance of 200,000 won PER MONTH.

And I get it every month, on top of the base rate.

No wonder you failed as an English teacher.
